Great week long stay with friend using it as a base for SF exploration. Near to Wharf, Trolleycars, bus routes, GG Bridge this hostel is busy but well run. Free wifi in lounge, it was noisy and seems to have a high proportion of out of work economic refugees - that said despite the noise I found it more than adequate. Recommend a private room if you can - worth it for on site all day free permit parking!

Cosy historic setting
Good: Location, cosy hangout areas ,nice views , free net, good breakfast, there is a kitchen but didn't use it because the option of coffee shop nicely run by friendly ppl .
Easy to walk to the wharf for shop or rent a bike and eat ,close to bus stop to the city. Heated rooms ,clean bathrooms , laundry on site (coins) storage room ,vending machine, staff is mostly friendly they can call a shuttle for you .Good price.Daily activities displayed on walls ,plenty info I enjoy my stay overall.
Bad bits:
non that it couldn't be change in the future .It was a shock to find all my stuff on the floor when i got back the first day ,it seems like the guy at the desk forgot his manners and forgot respect for my privacy.
He decided without looking twice at my bed that ""i shouldn't be there " or "I left the hostel without my bags" ?? I did book two nights .
He ask me ""it is this your first time in a Hostel??" ""you should use the bed allocated to you only or we need to cut your lock and take all out" no even a sorry ! my ID documents were all over the floor ! He was incredible rude to me , didn't want to know me (?) or give a reasonable explanation since my pjs and other things were neatly on the bed ,visible to him. and the bed allocated to me was already taken by another girl ,but she wasn't thrown out!
This boy at the reception desk , was more concern with my stuff placed at the"wrong bed" and "wrong check out day" ?? than the filthy floors and dusty mattress in the room.
This incident wasn't enough to spoil my stay in this hostel , but hope he get thrown out or retrained,he is spoiling the reputation of the hostel.

Room Tip: Get a room at the back of the building ,they do have lovely views to the bay and trees

I stayed in this hostel for 2 nights. A bit expensive compared to other hostels in SF but good stay overall. Friendly staff. Nice location: view on Golden Bridge and close to the Marina and Fisherman's area (which is kind of obvious with the name! But anyway, it's true). Bus stop close by. Clean sheets and towels. Ok bathroom. Good breakfast included in price. Big and nice lounge to chill. Big kitchen to cook your own food. Wifi. Huge lockers in room, but think about bringing a lock. Recycling bins.

You can see the bay from the breakfast room. The staff was helpful and patient. The towels were free. There was a free cookout while we were there. The hostel is in a historic building. The main room is light, comfortable and pleasant. This is the best hostel experience I have ever had.

We took our group of middle school girl scouts here for a field trip. While not expecting anything fancy we did expect cleanliness, especially when the hostelling international representatives told is it was the nicest hostel in the US. Floors looked like they hadn't been swept in weeks mattress pads on beds has not been washed since there was hair and crumbs on some of them and the bathrooms needed a good scrub down. $4000 for 20 people in a dorm for four nigjts? We at least expected it to be clean
Very disappointing. At least the view is lovely.

$25 for this place is a superb value! It’s right in the middle of Fort Mason, walking distance from Fisherman’s Wharf and Presidio, easy access to public transit and a great view from your window to Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz. So it’s a great place to crash and base your explorations from. Of course, spartan shared rooms and baths, but no surprise there if you know what the hostel concept is all about. Really nice and helpful staff too. I went there last year for a Cheap Trick/Stone Temple Pilots concert at the Great Meadow, and it was just priceless to get a room just a hundred yards from the venue. And in an area where you expect to pay at least $100. Didn’t have any problems with loud snoring roommates, but I’ll remember to bring a flashlight next time I stay at a place like this; it’s really hard to find your way and reach for your stuff at night in a shared, pitch-black chamber.
