Stayed one night on a whirlwind tour of San Francisco. Rooms are large and relatively well appointed but not quite 4 star IMO. Bed and linens were fantastic. Despite the drunk loud lunatics that were returning to their rooms at 4 AM the room was amazingly quiet. The free Starbucks coffee stand outside the lobby level elevators was a really nice touch (and greatly appreciated in the morning).
Like some other reviewers noted the area immediately surrounding the hotel is filthy. There are some great destinations and cool bars and restaurants within walking distance so if you map out where you're going, walk briskly and ignore the negative crap it's still a good time.
The lobby and the bar seemed understaffed so the service was slow but the staff was friendly. There are many fine hotels in the area. I'm sure this is one of them.
