I was over from Australia and went with a friend who lives in San Fran - we both loved it! The guide was so interesting and played a character well. It's made me want to book another trip to spend more time in some of the places he showed us! Highly recommended!

We immensely enjoyed our walking tour with "Emperor Norton". He is well versed in his local knowledge and is clearly a well liked member of the community (this is demonstrated as locals greet him, smile at him, allow him into their businesses etc). We saw some really wonderful parts of San Francisco we would have otherwise NOT have seen if on any other tour. We learned some great history and we are STILL talking about what what we learned from this engaging tour guide (almost a month after). We especially appreciated the cool costume, his photos, and little stories that brought the history of San Fran alive for us. He even took us through Chinatown and while our time there was limited - we learned more from his tour than an actual Chinatown tour we took a few days later! Yes, this is about a 3 hour walking tour, but we didn't notice. We were sad to see it come to an end. A reasonably priced tour and a definite "must do"! P.S. if you are staying in San Francisco for a few days - try to do this tour first thing so if you do any other tour or see any other site - you will appreciate the relevance of any building or street you see/find yourself at.

This was a fantastic tour! (We got a half off ticket deal, so even better) "Emperor Norton" led us on a wonderful and informative tour. Be prepared, it's longer than advertised (probably 2.75 hours long), but it was well worth the time. I learned about many placed I had not known existed!

Emperor Norton I gives a theatrical tour with humor and lots of history intermixed with contemporary tidbits about San Francisco. Make sure you listen to the Emperor's opening speech which introduces his character 's history and integration into the tour. It is surprising how many places on the tour we visited that we were unaware or had walked by without seeing until the Emperor expounded...like the 60's lounge where Madmen was filmed, secret tunnels, the Barbary Coast or the hidden parks. Clearly the City is embracing Emperor Norton I as people on the street greet him with "Good Day Emperor!". Whether you are local or a tourist, this is a fun tour to take.
Check out the weather in advance since the tour is mostly outdoors and nearly three hours of walking. Also mark your location along the way on a map so you can find those secret places again.

A very interesting and informative tour. Things I never knew about San Francisco and I'd tell you about the secret passage but it's a secret! A must do tour.
