Excellent location , breakfast best we have had rooms quirky. Wine at 5 tasting is something not to miss and you can get free bikes via hotel all very positive cool hotel. We would come again and just travel across the bridge and experience Sausalito

Room Tip: Breakfast in the hotel no need to walk and cycle golden gate bridge

Thanks, Ann-Marie A! It's always exciting for us to hear when a guest is already planning her return. It is indeed a lot of fun to cycle over the Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito, though many will take a ferry back after so much riding :). It's fun to enjoy lunch outdoors there and then the views from the boats back to the piers here are amazing...

What a refreshing change to have a hotel that's unique, the Argonaut Hotel is completely unlike any other I've stayed it and I think that's what will draw me back.
The doorman greets with a cheery smile & has the craziest uniform.
The Interior of the hotel has a nautical theme and the rooms follow suit with huge mirrors that mimic a porthole. They are immaculate and have very comfy beds.
We had a second floor room, no view, but that didn't matter too much as we were out & about most of the day.
Location of the hotel was perfect for us. There's a wine hour at 5pm which is a great way to socialise and meet fellow guests.
The cable car stop was close by, walking into Union sq was approx 30 mins from the hotel. we did this twice, & took in China town, and dinner in the Italian quarter.
There are free bikes (first come basis) available from reception, but other bike rental is just next door for your ride across the bridge to Sausalito.
All in all we really enjoyed our stay at the Argonaut, all the staff we met from the front desk to the housekeeping services were great.
Thanks for making our stay a pleasant one and we hope to see you again someday.

Thanks so much, HelenT3! I just love five-star reviews from TripAdvisor's senior contributors. Of course, we love any praise, but it's fun to see when even an experienced traveler finds the Argonaut unique and memorable among all hotels visited. I've already shared your feedback with the appropriate managers so they can recognize their crew. It sounds like you fit a lot into your stay. Hopefully also some crab & corn chowder in the restaurant? 'Tis the season for cozy soups!

I stayed here for two nights as part of a trip round the West coast of the US. The hotel was very comfortable, with large, well decorated rooms with very comfortable beds. The hotel is pretty well located- Fisherman's Wharf is a fun area to see (if a little bit touristy), but the hotel is right next to a cable car stop, and in fact you could walk to the centre of town in about 30mins (the bus service is also very good for visiting places a bit further away like the Golden Gate Bridge). Service was also very good- on one night there was some banging noises near my room which turned out to be unscheduled maintenance work- the staff were very apologetic and offered me a free breakfast as compensation which was good of them (admittedly they did then get my breakfast order wrong, but this was also corrected pretty quickly)

The only slight downside is that there is no obvious parking anywhere close to the hotel so you're pretty much required to use the valet parking, which certainly isn't cheap, so this should be factored in to the cost of the hotel when booking.

All in all though, a very good experience

Hi, MDiffey, and thanks for your review! I'm pleased to hear you enjoy some good nights of slumber atop our pillowtop mattresses, and the front desk was helpful with that maintenance issue. I agree that the cable cars and buses are a great way to explore Nob Hill, Union Square, North Beach, Chinatown, and so much more. Apparently those cable cars are the nation's only MOVING historic monument. Pretty cool!

When you step out of your cab, you can hear the cable car bells ring from next door in the national park. Then, you are greeted by a charmingly dressed man with that Bermuda formal elegance. The hotel is decorated smartly in a classical nautical theme that beckons from 2000 leagues under the sea. The feeling is seamless and contemporary yet in keeping with the historical building it is housed in. The price is reasonable, and I would stay here for every visit to San Francisco.

Thank you, InkjetJen! You have brought the sights and sounds of the hotel and its environs alive on the page! I hope you also got to TASTE some wine at our nightly party in the lobby? Or perhaps we tempted you with that famous crab & corn chowder? Next time :)...

This hotel is unique with atmosphere and in a great location. Staff was indifferent. We paid a huge upcharge for a room with a view which turned out to be one window smaller than 3' wide on the 3rd floor. Nothing could be seen from the room; you had to stand at the window to look out to see a small portion of the Golden Gate. Mostly all we could see (and hear) were the people in line for the trolley by the park. We wished we'd saved the money and stayed in a non-view room.

Hello, pjalmtlansing. I am sorry to learn that you didn't enjoy the upgrade. It is so odd that you could hear cable car visitors from the third floor. I have never ever heard of that as a noise issue, so I can assure you that either the window was accidentally ajar or a really wild crew must have been outside. We have such great double-pane windows, that I am thinking something special must have been going on for you to notice from up there. I hope we will be able to see you back in the future, and wow you with our service! Drop me a line if I may be of any assistance. Thank you!

There are just so many things great about this hotel:
- room decor that looks like a boat
- treasure chest at reception for my son available all time
- convenient location
- very helpful hotel staff
- good restaurant

The only problem to beware of is if you have a car with you. There is no self parking facilities. Valet parking is expensive, but my real problem was it was inadequately staffed and there was once i had to wait half an hour for them to pull out my car.

Hi, Nicholas Y! I'm glad that you and your son had a fantastic time, and enjoyed the unique nautical feel and little goodies here. I do wish that self-parking were possible at our historic location here, but our valet partner does maintain rates that are competitive for San Francisco hotels. Their standard for vehicle delivery is also 10-20 minutes (typically 10-15), so we'd love to look into that delay and get to the root cause. I'll keep my eyes peeled to any further inconsistencies. Thanks for the heads up!

We chose to stay here for an extra few days as a couple after being in Orlando and Las Vegas with friends and we couldn't have picked a better place. Right from check in with the cheery Lavon we found every single member of staff couldn't do enough. Their can do attitude was fantastic.
A lovely room overlooking the cable car terminus was brilliant and the highlight of our stay was the free use of hotel bikes to cross the Golden Gate Bridge.
For us the location was excellent and complimentary wine each evening was an added bonus!
Couldn't recommend this place more.

Hi, there, Silversurfer020!
I've already shared this heartwarming review with Miss Lavon and her manager. It's great to hear the team earned high praise from one of TripAdvisor's "Senior Reviewers."
I'm happy that you had a chance to take advantage of our bike rentals and pedal over the Bridge for free (well, unless you count the cost of feeling the burn, right?! Hello, ferry boat home!!)
Hopefully our paths will cross back here at a future wine party :).
