We enjoyed the Argonaut 3 years ago - would we still like it? Well if anything it's improved....our rose-tinted memories of our first stay were vindicated...this time we had 6 nights and loved it.
The welcome from all staff, overall service, comfort and location are excellent. The minor inconvenience of the works out the front had no impact on our stay.
Location is perfect. Turn left out the door to cable car, Gary Danko and a great little laundrette. Turn right to Embarcadero with all the piers, cafes, bars etc. Perfect for walking (even jogging) to all the sites.
The room was perfectly good for the 3 of us (+ copious luggage), staff were friendly and informative and we enjoyed the breakfasts and wine hour. Can't wait to return...

Thank you so much, Richmet! That is so sweet to hear that we met or even surpassed your memories. On Thursday off this week, we are so excited for the city to "cut the ribbon" on the street in our area, at which point we can celebrate the end of that minor inconvenience and the beginning of the summer season! We sure will be grateful for the widened sidewalks if the America's Cup crowds materialize as expected. Hopefully it won't be another three years till we see you again ;).

Wonderful place to stay. It felt safe and clean and the staff was beyond freindly. Just a great vibe and what an added value to have free happy hour every day! Ethan, the bellman jumped in two mornings when the concierage was out and helped me navigate/mapping a day. This was so appreciated as a single mom navigating and an example of how great the service was! Only issue was I paid extra for a bridge view room, got to the room and had no view. They moved us, but wish I had not had the trouble of that after a 10 hour flight....

Thanks, Lauren 624! And kudos to Ethan -- I am not surprised but still very pleased to hear that he helped you really shape your experience with all his local know-how. He is a great guy and cracks me up on a regular basis.
We'll have to look into that room move snafu. Perhaps the issues was that view rooms are on both the Golden Gate Bridge and Alcatraz sides of the property? In any case, thanks for bringing it up, we'll look into it! Cheers.

We're already in love with the Kimpton chain for their hospitality, quality and commitment to diversity, and the Argonaut may be the most fun of their hotels we've visited. It's the old Del Monte cannery building at Fisherman's Wharf -- once the largest cannery in the US. The interior has preserved the brick and beam architecture while appointments and furnishings bring in a nautical flair. You're at the less-touristy, less congested end of Fisherman's Wharf and adjacent to the trolley line terminus, where you can catch the cable car for a fun ride into the city center. Easy walk to Chinatown and the Italian neighborhood where we found great restaurants. This was really a lot more fun than looking at four white walls, we really felt we were experiencing the flavor of this part of the city. Must say it was also amazingly quiet at night. I'd highly recommend it.

Room Tip: The hotel is across the street from the piers. The water view rooms cost slightly more but are wort...

Aw, thanks, FabRanch!
I am glad to hear from a loyal Kimpton fan, and even more tickled to hear you think we were at the top of the heap :). It is true that the cool historic building and location at the edge of the hustle-bustle does give us an advantage. But, of course, the tricky part is the service, so it's wonderful that you felt that their hospitality and diverse personalities really added to the atmosphere overall.
It sounds like you had a good mix of fun and quiet. I hope you'll come back to see us again next time!

We found a very nice room, a great lobby, and a perfect location. The staff was wonderful, ESP. Stanley! This hotel provides a happy hour every night in the charming lobby that has a fireplace that you can gather around as well as areas for card games and lounging. The Blue Mermaid restaurant serves ver good food but is rather pricey, of course everything is San Francisco is rather pricey. Don't hesitate to book a room into this hotel, you will also be pleased I'm sure.

Hello, Ohair! I know, I know, nothing in San Francisco comes cheaply (you should see the rents!) but I am thrilled you felt that our hotel was a good value and the staff were shining stars! Thanks for sharing your story.

Very nice place right on the sea side. Room are spacious and very tastefully decorated. People are very friendly.
Only drawback: the sound proofing of the room is quite poor, you hear pretty much everything from the hall. That's why I give only 3 pts to the room
And not cheap !

We stayed at The Argonaut for 4 nights in May. The hotel is fantastic, lovely size rooms and really nicely decorated. The staff are so friendly and helpful from the front desk to the maids. They are really child friendly and allowed my daughters to look after one of their gold fish which was lovely. They are also very dog friendly, the dogs are classed as VIPs. We left a bag in a cab when we arrived and they did everything they could to locate it (unfortunately it was never handed in which was a shame). Fishermans Wharf is a great place to be based especially if you have children. We would stay at the Argonaut again if we return. Thanks for making our stay so special. :). Special thank you to Laureen Dasalla.

*We* feel warm and fuzzy reading this note, and I'm sure Laureen will be thrilled! I'm sorry that cab driver did not turn up with your bag, but it is heart-warming to read about the team's efforts, and great to see those efforts recognized --- THANK YOU!

This hotel is worth the money if you can afford it. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Large, clean rooms are just one of the benefits of this hotel. Another is it's location! Within waking distance of many popular attractions and about a block from the cable cars to ride to attractions further away.
