“Excellent location”
Reviewed April 27, 2013

Awesome location right in the middle of Fisherman's Wharf. Only a short walk to Pier 39 and the Alcatrez Ferry dock. Lots of good restaurants too. Cable Car pickup is one block away. Free wine/beer happy hour was a nice touch too.

Thank you, Sean! The historic streetcar is a neat part of the history here at the Wharf. A lot of our guests enjoy checking out the Cannery building history or the Maritime Museum as well. Both are free and connect you with the soul of the waterfront!

Great location, lovely reception and area to hang out, talk, enjoy the fire; the 2 rooms we had were both really nice. We walked to the Ferry building and then Chinatown, racking over 5 miles, but all enjoyable. Drove to the Asian Art Museum, K&L, other SF specialties. Happy to return 'home'. Will come again.

RiverReader, you make me salivate with this mention of a day at the culinary hotspots of the ferry building and Chinatown followed by --slurp! -- K&L Wine Merchants. What a gem that place is. It sounds like you walked a lot, and smartly (avoiding hills!). That is how I try to justify the many indulgences to eat on every corner! Did you also check out the chowder here at our very own Blue Mermaid restaurant? That stuff wins awards left and right, especially the crab & corn, which is true comfort food.

Whilst I was initially impressed with the Argonaut and some of its staff, unfortunately they have been incredibly deceptive and I have lost an iPad in the process.

I gave the reception staff a package with an iPad in it to send within the States - they were very helpful and said it would be FedExed. Unfortunately that package never arrived at its destination. Stories kept changing, from being able to remember, to not remembering at all and when CCTV footage was suggested, I thought it was a great idea. What a shame then, that they don't keep footage for a long enough time to have evidence of me handing over the package. They have denied all knowledge of this happening and their insurer has been duped by their untruthful report, too.

A lovely location and lovely touches but unfortunately the staff, including the management, are incredibly untrustworthy.

My wife and I had just one night in San Francisco before heading up to Napa and reserved a king room here. We didn't get in until about 10PM and were thankful for the valet parking (even at the $52 price tag which included taxes). The room was nice and worked perfectly for us (did not have any view - only interior, but we didn't care as it was just for one night). This isn't a real upscale hotel, but at $194/nt right on the wharf, it is hard to beat. Great location for checking out the wharf. We walked down close to Coit tower for breakfast and then back down along the wharf before heading out. The staff we encountered were great and check-in/out was a breeze. I would definitely stay here again for a quick night or two in San Fran. I also appreciated that a Starbucks is right around the corner!

Hello, there, Cowtown! I'm glad you enjoyed our big city. No need to invest in a sea view if you're going to be out and about taking the city by storm! I'm glad the location made things so easy for you and that valet and the arrival/departure process were smooth sailing. We will look forward to your next visit!

Spent a couple of days in Sf to see my son. He works near the wharf so selected this hotel without any knowledge. I thought it was excellent. It is not the Four Seasons, but very large room, well decorated and clean. The selling point on this hotel is the location. Perfect for visiting the wharf and close to the trolly cars to get over the hill to Market street. Good work out room on the 2nd floor. Lots of places to stop in for cocktails and beer in the neighborhood. Area as you expect is full of tourist, but that is the wharf. Restaurant located in the hotel is just OK, but across the street you have plenty of choices for SF seafood. Good Wifi, good shower, good housekeeping. The street in front of hotel was under construction, but should be completed soon and will be very nice.

Room Tip: My room was facing the courtyard next door, the Craft beer bar in the courtyard closes early so noi...

Hi, Louis! Thanks for your five-star thumbs up. We are indeed spoiled by the location here. I'm glad the other features of the room were right for you, and thanks for mentioning the gym. As a brand, Kimpton is really focusing in on wellness and our newly renovated fitness room is just part of that. On your next visit, check out our bicycles, yoga mats, or jog to the Golden Gate Bridge... the view will be your reward. Just don't try to cross it and come back, that sucker is 1.7 miles long :).

We stayed here prior to a trip to Napa, and we liked it so much, we stayed again after leaving Napa. The rooms were really nice. The hotel staff were wonderful. The restaurant/bar staff were great & fun!
The Crab chowder is to die for!
The nightly wine tasting reception was a great way to start the evening.
Will return again and again.

Room Tip: Ask for one w/ a view of bay, not the court yard

Michael B, thanks for already visiting us twice (before and after Napa)! That's great to hear. The chef's crowd chowder is the crowd favorite, for sure, and all calories are erased by the arugula salad -- suddenly it's a healthy meal :). Especially with some chardonnay, always good for the heart... Salivation aside, I'm thrilled the staff were friendly and you enjoyed the extra touches here. Hope to meet you at the next wine party when you come for visit #3... wink, wink, nudge, nudge!

We stayed in a corner room, 4th floor, overlooking Ghiradelli square and the Golden Gate Bridge. The view from the room was fantastic! We walked all around the wharf area, caught the cable car right outside the hotel, and drove our rental car all around the city- and more. The location is ideal! The staff was always upbeat, remembered our names from the first moment we arrived, and wished us both Happy Birthday many times. The building itself, and its history as a cannery is amazing! The only downside we had was housekeeping. They did not straighten very much, nor clean very thoroughly. For example, during our 4 days, the iron wasn't put up, the newspaper never thrown away or straightened or picked up off the floor by the door where we eventually began to stack it. Lotion in the bathroom not replaced, bucket for champagne never cleared, hair (ours) in shower missed during cleaning. All little details you expect when paying 450+ a night. The lobby downstairs and the downstairs restrooms much the same... a little neglected. However, overall, this did not damper our wonderful visit at the hotel. The staff really was responsive in regards to housekeeping, which we alerted them to in a in-house survey they sent after our stay. While we were there, they really made our birthdays special with their amazing attitudes and helpful personalities. We would stay again, and recommend it to others.

Room Tip: Get a room with a view of both the bridge and Ghiradelli square!

Hello, Washingtons! Thank you for your keen attention to detail. We will make sure to hone in on these details with the housekeeping ladies to ensure the rooms are remaining as orderly during the stay as they look upon arrival! I'm glad that everything was so great with the friendly front desk crew, though, and with that special view of Ghirardelli and the Golden Gate Bridge! Thank you again.
