“Dream come true!”
Reviewed February 5, 2013

I have always wanted to stay at this hotel and thanks to a 72 hour sale, I was able to make a dream come true. First and foremost, WONDERFUL customer service! Check in was a breeze. The front desk was incredibly polite and pleasant. They had my room ready for early check in, which I did have an issue with. The beds weren't completely made and the heater didn't work. They were more than happy to accommodate me. They offered complimentary wine, which I declined since I don't drink wine. Then they offered to upgrade my room to a deluxe for the inconvenience. Though the standard rooms are beautiful, if you want a bit more room, the deluxe room is the way to go. Incredibly clean rooms. The mattresses, if I could have figured out a way to bring it home with me, I would have. Best night's sleep I had in a really long time. For the most part, the room was pretty sound proof. Occasionally, you heard doors closing or people talking in the halls, but that wasn't often. We did have an issue with the toilet backing up, which could happen anywhere. Literally, maintenance was there within 2 minutes of calling. Location is wonderful. However, parking is a bit steep ($46 a day). I didn't have a car, so this wasn't a concern. If you get the chance to stay at this hotel, jump at the chance. You won't be disappointed.

Room Tip: Back of the hotel is quieter, though the view isn't as spectacular as the 'bay' view. If...

Hi, mzdov,
I just love the image of you trying to sneak out with a mattress under one arm :)!
I'm delighted you found our beds to be so comfortable, and we'll let the front desk and engineering teams know they were spot on as well. Please come back and see us again, and keep an eye out on our Packages (listed on our website) for parking packages, which are often available, especially to AAA members. I know parking is steep in the city, but the good news is that, even if parking packages are unavailable, our rate is competitive for the area. Hope to see you next time! Cheers.

Wonderful location! Close enough to the waterfront, and Fishermans Pier but far enough away it was super quiet. Right next to a bike rental place, and had a couple nice restaraunts on the same block. Its also right near the start of the bike path to the Golden Gate, and Ghiardelli Square. Nightly wine happy hour, daily afternoon hot choclate bar, and somehow we managed to get the cheers package(didn't pay extra) which included two free drinks a night. The hotel rest/bar the Blue Mermaid is quaint, fun little bar with great food. The hotel was small enough that it wasn't overwhelming. Comfortable lobby.

Room Tip: Didn't go for the rooms with views(they cost extra) which was a good call--we were barely in our...

Thanks, Megan! I'm glad that our location was perfect and you had such a great time! Our Blue Mermaid chowderhouse is just getting ready to open up and expanded heated patio, so please come back and check it out again this summer on a sunny day!
Come by our concierge desk just before 8 am, and you may even luck into a FREE bike rental for your next waterfront explorations. "Cheers!"

We were pleased we bought the advance purchase which made for relative good value.

Excellent location with plenty of tram and bus links. Great for tourists.

The rooms were very spacious, quirky with lots of added extras. Designed on a nautical theme with an upmarket feel.

Staff were very helpful in every respect.

The complimentary drinks were a wonderful touch unseen elsewhere and were very much appreciated. Such gestures go a long way to reflect on a great holiday with fond memories.

Highly recommend - had a great time!!

There is something about this place that is just like home. We arrived late on a cold wet night after a horrendous drive up the I5 from LA. The valet service was excellent from our very first contact outside the front door and continued to be quick throughout our stay - I really didn't mind paying because the service was so good. The location of this hotel is great for tourists, right on the water in an area with lots of shopping and restaurants. Its only a ten minute walk to pier 39 and the alcatraz cruise. Check In was easy and because we missed the wine hour the lovely lady at reception gave us vouchers for a drink at the bar. The rooms are fantastic and very spacious. If you are not an In Touch member make sure you join up before your stay (its free) because they include $10 minibar credit for members. The little touches is what made a difference, really nice toiletries, a tv the swivels so you can watch it from the couch or the bed, leopard print comfy bathrobes, a really good shower, free wifi... The bed was AMAZING - such a good nights sleep. During our stay I also noticed that they do coco for guests free of charge in the afternoon - it smelt so good! (I'm lactose intolerant so couldn't have any - but still appreciate the sentiment!). We're a young couple and don't have kids, I'm not bothered by them at all, but for people who might be you should be aware this hotel is very 'family' orientated and there are children around. I heard someone say whilst we were there that they have bicycles that you can loan from the hotel too :)
All round this place is the sort of hotel that you recommend to friends, if I have mates that go to San Francisco I will insist they give this place a try.

The best thing about an Aussie friend is you can call them your mate! All too appropropriate for our waterfront setting :). Thanks for the wonderful review, Danielle. I'm thrilled that our beds earned your all-capitals endorsement, and thanks for advertising our Kimpton InTouch program, too! For all you readers out there, rest assured it's free to join and raiding the minibar is just the tip of the iceberg!
Take care & see you next time you cross the Pacific.

Stayed here for 4 nights for New years Eve and stayed in a deluxe king room. The location is fantastic the room was just as good. Comfortable bed and bedding very roomy the service excellent, so was house keeping. (even though someone left half a Viagra tablet under the bedside clock, easy enough to miss though). Loved this hotel and wished we could have stayed longer, but will be back. Very happy to recommend.

Well, well, Mazza, that is a pretty funny story. I can see how housekeeping could miss that, whoops! Glad the room was spin 'n' span otherwise and that you wanted to stay longer. Come back and see us soon!

We stayed here in November and had a great time. The location was great, with easy access to transport and fisherman's wharf. The there were lots of great bars near by so always something to do.

Overall it was great value, the wine tasting was good and staff always friendly.

Would recommend this for a first stay in SF.

Stayed at the Argonaut for two nights and as with all Kimpton Hotels, this one did not disappoint! The decor was lovely and our room was very comfortable. Location great, close to the wharfs, Lombard Street, great view of Golden Gate bridge. Highly recommend this hotel, staff very friendly as well as all the other perks you get staying at a Kimpton Hotel.
