The hotel has the whole nautical feel going on. The rooms are quite nice. The location is something else, this place is close to everything, bus tours, Alcatraz, restaurants, etc. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The only downfall with our stay was the restaurant was closed due to a gas pipe. But there is sooooooo many food places close by so it wasn't really to much of a problem.

Hi, Lauren. Glad you had a great time and enjoyed all the local eateries around the hotel. The good news is that gas pipe outage at the restaurant is totally resolved now, so hopefully we can see you again for some linguine and clams or crab & corn chowder (my comfort food fave).

My mother and I stayed here for three nights in mid January based on a referral from a friend. We were so impressed! Firstly, it's in an ideal location for many of SF's main attractions, including Fisherman's Wharf obviously, Pier 39, Alcatraz tours, ferries and a 2 minute walk to the cable car ride which takes you directly to Union Square, another major attraction, as well as China Town! The staff were friendly and the room was spacious and clean with the most comfortable beds we had ever slept on in a hotel. We didn't dine in the restaurant, however, being located right on Fisherman's Wharf meant first class breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as the amazing vendors selling shrimp and crab cocktails. The free wine hour every evening is also a plus and the decor gives it a special unique touch! I took away a star as the room included many different lights and lamps instead of one main light, the bathtub had a few cracks in it and there were a couple of concierges who were not as welcoming and friendly as the other amazing staff. Overall, I'd definiely stay here again and would happily and confidently recommend it in a flash to anyone, particularly if you have never been to SF before and want to experience all of the main attractions.

Room Tip: Most of the rooms have hotel and street views but if you prefer a view of the wharf you can pay extr...

We stayed here between Christmas and New Year for two nights. We booked a suite, which was spacious and nice. Hassle free check in/check out and the staff were super friendly and helpful. The valet service for the car was generally pretty good but one morning there was a mix up and they hadn't brought the car around. We ate in the restaurant one night for dinner and again one of the mornings for breakfast. Both times we were not disappointed with the food and the service was good. The only downside is that next time I will request a room on the fourth floor as we had kids stamping around in the evenings in the room above us (would have thought they should have been in bed asleep by 10.30pm). Overall; not a bad location and a nice hotel.

Room Tip: Go for the top floor as we had kids running around in the room above which was annoying late at nigh...

Thanks for the 5-star review, pcr! I'm glad you got to savor some of the chef's treats in the Blue Mermaid restaurant and that the service was spot-in in both the dining room and hotel. We'd be happy to look into that valet issue, and can always "regulate" on night owls of any age and size. Security is available each and every night in case of any monkeys jumping on the bed!

Stayed here for 3 nights in early January. The hotel is on the cusp of the tourist trap that is Fisherman's Wharf, which is not the nicest part of SF. That said, it's 2 mins walk from the cable car, parks and Ghirardelli Square.

Checking in was troublesome - first room allocated was not made up, second room was too small, so only on the 3rd attempt did the hotel get it right.

The staff overall were very helpful and friendly - just what I'd expect of a Kimpton Hotel.

The BIG downside was the fact there was no restaurant or room service in the hotel during our stay. Apparently there was a gas supply issue, and had been a problem for the 5 days before we arrived. We were told it was likely to be a problem for at least another 7 days. For an apparent 4-star hotel to expect their guests to accept this is incredibly poor, without offering either a reduction in the rate, or alternative service options. I'm sure if this gas issue had happened 10 days before Christmas, the hotel would have done more to get it sorted.

Very disappointing by the hotel management not to address this better.

Room Tip: Bay views aren't worth the money, save the cash for a trip to Sausalito on the ferry.

Hello, up there, KobeBryant! I am glad you got to experience the great nearby attractions that make the waterfront a favorite spot for visitors. We'll let the crew here know that their stellar service lived up to your high expectations for Kimpton. That gas is now back in our sails and the restaurant is serving up all meals and room service, so please reach out to me if there is anything we can do to make it up to you on your next stay!

LOCATION: To the east there is ugly and too the west there is beauty: this just about sums up Argonaut Hotel. It lies to the western edge of Fisherman’s Wharf a place where the romance of San Francisco's fishing community has been broken by a cotton candy fairground culture that has ripped away all meaning of the past. However, within the Argonaut Hotel is the National Park Visitor Centre for the San Francisco Maritime Park which offers a deep and informative story of San Francisco’s rich maritime history. Across the street is Hyde Park Pier with its fantastic exhibit of historic boats. To the west are parks galore, the magnificent Bay and of course the Golden Gate Bridge. Is the Argonaut Hotel ideally located? You bet!

Hotel: it is a 3 star hotel, which tells you that you’re not going to get a sumptuous Nob Hill experience, but you are getting a lovely, comfortable hotel, with great rooms with nice touches. During our stay our kids got to have a pet goldfish in the room for company and novelty. Complimentary hot chocolate was served in the afternoon and wine early evening. The overall decor offered a funky maritime feel with deck loungers lining the wall, sails and plenty of decking. The staff were all friendly, proactive and helpful. Within the Argonaut building were a Starbucks, Ben & Jerry’s, a wine merchant and a Blazing Saddles bike rental outlet.

Room: we stayed in a very spacious suite which had two well appointed rooms and a great bathroom with a very deep, deep spa bath. Beds were great, towels were good and plentiful. A big thumbs up!

Dining: probably the only downside of the hotel. Breakfast was okay but the service was a little tardy. We also dinner there (on new year’s eve) and again it was okay but nothing special.

Overall:
Do Stay if: you’re a family
Don’t stay: if you enjoy a martini before dinner

We stayed here for 4 nights as part of a visit around California. We arrived in a taxi from the airport, and even by the time we opened the car door, the door staff were there with a trolley to help with our luggage. The reception staff were really friendly, and upgraded us to a bay view when they heard we were on our honeymoon. We were on the first floor right at the front of the building, and whilst the vies of Alcatraz were great, I thought it might be noisy from the street - it wasn't.

The quality of the rooms was great, the beds comfy, the robes a nice touch, and the bathrooms modern and clean. We were given a complimentary bottle off champagne on our second night.

The location is excellent for all the sites and public transport. There are loads of places around the immediate vicinity for dinner and breakfast.

I did notice some other comments about the sound proofing between the rooms. We could hear the guy in the room next door snoring (his poor wife!) but it honestly was no worse than many other hotels I have stayed in.

All in all, we really enjoyed our time here, and if I was to visit San Fran again, I would definitely stay here (hopefully in summer, where I would definitely use the bike hire service in the hotel to cycle to the Golden Gate Bridge as the hotel is right on the cycle path)

You won't find a better launching pad to see the sights than the Argonaut Hotel. It's within walking distance to Pier 39 and all that Fisherman's Wharf has to offer. A 2 minute walk in the other direction takes you to the start of the Hyde cable car line. Add 30 seconds more and you'll be having Irish coffee at the world famous Buena Vista! Cool hotel with great service....
Now for the downside. Since my last visit the powers that be have replaced the normal sundries with shower dispensers. It's cheap, cheesy and downgrades the experience from what used to be outstanding to just average. In spite of the hotel channel honking about Kimpton's altruism I just don't but the "save the planet crap". This is purely a cost cutting measure. Lack of decent amenities in the bath make this hotel overpriced. It will keep me from staying at a Kimpton hotel in the future.

Room Tip: There are "view" rooms that overlook the street with the bay behind...they are noisy and e...
