I don't know if I'm just becoming a hotel snob or what, but while I liked this hotel I didn't think it was "wow", or even as luxurious as other Kimpton properties I've stayed in. Location could not be better for easy access to public transportation, and easy walking distance to the Fishermans Wharf area. The doormen and bell hops were some of the nicest I've encountered - very friendly, prompt service, helpful with suggestions, and just all around wonderful assets to the property. Check in/out was quick and efficient, and our room was ready when we arrived. The lobby was nicely appointed and a nice place to hang out and people watch. Missed the wine reception, but water appeared to be served all day. Would have been a nice touch to add coffee as well. We had a king room with a view on the 3rd floor. The room was a bit small and the couch was so uncomfortable we didn't even sit on it, but had all the necessities. The bedding was very comfortable, although it would have been nice to have had a blanket in the room as the comforter was thin (sure they would have provided one if asked though). The view of the Golden Gate Bridge was less than spectacular - probably would not pay to upgrade to this if we returned. Had no problems with noise from neighbors or from outside. Everything was very clean and fresh, and the large pump bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and body wash were a nice touch. Took me some time to figure out that the hair dryer was hidden in plain sight, hung up in a bag next to the shower. Used the business center to print our boarding passes and was very pleased with the facilities. As great as all that was, I just didn't feel like the place was luxurious enough to justify the price (even for SF) and wasn't "wowed". That said, I would stay here again.

This is a good class character hotel in a good location. A little let down by a lack of staff character - with the exception of the excellent doormen. Once in the front door it felt impersonal. But - otherwise good rooms, free wine tasting, kids welcome. A good place to spend a few nights.

The pictures that have been posted by travelers tell most of the story of this Kimpton gem. That squiggly-design wallpaper you may have noticed in the bathroooms is actually a stylized rendering of octopus tentacles. Also, the carved star in the "compass" design on the headboard of the bed spins. Don't ask me how I know.

My only issue was the hotel's offer to print boarding passes, which seemed like a good idea at the time. We filled out the form and gave it to the front desk on Saturday for a Monday morning flight. Well, they tried to check us in on Saturday and left us a message that they couldn't check us in because it was more than 24 hours prior to the flight. Duh. We put the date and time of the flight as requested on the form but they did not try to check us in at the appointed time (24 hours prior to departure), and they lost the form we filled out with all of the information needed to check us in. We ended up printing our own boarding passes in the business center.

We did not have a car on this trip which is good because we noticed that valet parking is $46/night. Ouch.

We will defintitely plan to stay here again on future trips to San Francisco (but we won't valet park a car!)

We stayed at this hotel with my parents on a trip we took to cali in October. What a great find!! It is right in downtown Fisherman's warf with plenty of places to walk to. The cable car stop is directly next store so it makes it easy to hop on and take a ride down to union square. The staff was spectacular! Very attentive and accommodating. The decor is very cool with the nautical theme. I highly recommend staying here.

Great place, great location. Staff is attentive, helpful and pleasant. Fabulous location, walking distance to all the places that matter. Have stayed at downtown hotels and this one is much nicer, newer and vibrant. Won't go wrong here.

NYGF,
Glad to hear you had such a pleasant stay! We do count ourselves lucky for being able to be housed within the Old Cannery Building, it certainly does make us a unique property. Plus, as you said, the location is tough to beat! We hope to see you again soon, and thank you for your feedback. Cheers!

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for part of our honeymoon trip and could not have been happier. The minute you arrive the service is friendly, efficient, and helpful. The concierge is excellent in helping you make the most of your time in San Fran. The rooms are large, clean, quiet, and very comfortable. We loved the wine and cheese reception at 5pm each evening and the lobby is a great place to relax with a glass of wine, lots of comfy seating available. The restaurant attached is also a great place for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. We liked that the hotel was part of the old Cannery Row, giving it character and charm. The location is great, a little touristy but the charms of the hotel take you away from that. The bell attendants are also very helpful and provide great tips on places to eat and things to do! Can't say anything negative, it will be our go to place on future trips!

Room Tip: Request a room with a view. Our faced other rooms.

Ckath,
"Can't say anything negative." Wow! Thats exactly what we shoot for, but it's always nice to know when we got it right. Especially, when on your honeymoon and celebrating such a special occasion. I'll be sure to relay your kind words to the Bell Staff and Concierge teams, we hope to see you again soon! I mean, you do have to make this a yearly anniversary celebration, right! Thank you for the feedback, cheers!

We recently attended a wedding in SF and didn't want to drive home, so we got a room at the Argonaut at Fisherman's Wharf. We chose the location as it was close to where the reception was held. If you haven't ever seen the wharf area or ridden a cable car, you should stay here. The room was very quiet although it was at street level. The beds and pillows are very comfy. The hotel has been remolded with exposed brick and a nautical theme. The room was spacious and the lobby very nice. We missed the free wine tasting, but will go back again.

Room Tip: Get a bay view.
