The argonaut hotel is by far the most stylish and classy hotel in fishermans wharf with impeccable service and great location.

I was very pleased upon entering the hotel as it's a smaller private hotel where the staff would remember you by your name; upon entering the room i was extemely pleased to find cleanliness, friendliness of the staff and the superior interior decoration of the room.

The location and hotel restaurant boasts an incredible full breakfast menu and the lobby is stocked with numerous information about the city!

Definetly great value and will be the hotel i will stay at next time in san francisco!

In fishermans warf where everything happens. Great place to stay as it is on the end with easy access to the marina park. Easy walk to the Americas Cup sailing in town when we were staying.

Room fine - all there and comfortable bed. (a must after the previous night at the spindrift).

Service good - we didn;t have any room service or problems with anything.

We had a hire car which we returned to the Downtown Alamo depo after arriving so there was no valet needed - apparently it's $48 a day.

Cheese and Wine every night - again great if you like the wine- I drink dry white only and the white here was sweet - hey ho....

Good places for breakfast - the bakery down the road.

This is a lovely hotel - we enjoyed our 5 nights there last week; decor, bed comfort, design, staff helpfulness all deserve a 5*. Location is great for Fisherman's Wharf) Just one or two niggles for such a pricey hotel; the room service waiter could not understand my order (British English) and we got a meal and drinks we did not order (food was nevertheless very good). Secondly, the bath/shower is kind of like you would expect at your grandmother's house (we were in room 365) - difficult to fathom controls and poor water pressure - really not good enough for this kind of nightly rate.

Hello, GoGapSport (that name just makes me want to run out of my office to beach and seize the day!). I'm glad that our staff helpfulness knocked your socks off and you enjoyed our beds and decor as well. Thanks for pointing out those hiccups with your room serivce order and the shower. It must be that yours was one of our accessible rooms, which do have a detachable shower head. Sorry about the extra complication there!

We booked this following the recommendations on here. I was overwhelmed with the choice in San Francisco, and have never visited there before.

It was a brilliant choice! We loved it! Stop looking and just book here, you won't be disappointed. A very warm and friendly place.

Although people advised against staying in Fisherman's Wharf, as it's busy etc, this hotel is situated on the edge at the end of the street, with a park on one side, so we were there when we needed to get to Alcatraz and cycle over GG Bridge.

Room was great, really comfy beds, we didn't take a room with a view. Coffee machine, BIG telly and fast wi-fi which the boys loved (sign up to the Kimpton loyalty programme before you go and you'll get free wi-fi).

Helpful concierge, they helped us with tickets for baseball game and restaurant recommendation.

Restaurant was very good for breakfast and dinner. And the 5pm wine get together was a very nice touch.

Fearing we might be travel weary after six weeks around the world, including stops in Germany, New York City, Toronto, Vancouver, The Rockies and a cruise-tour to Alaska, the Argonaut in San Francisco inspired us to enjoy another five days sightseeing around the delightful - but cool - sights of the west coast of USA. Comfy beds, quiet room yet in a busy and so convenient location as the Wharf, bustling as only the Wharf can be, we enjoyed ourselves so much we could have kept going for another few weeks.

Great staff, very attentive and eager to please. Rooms are small but functional. Best feature is John the doorman, who will treat you as if you are the best thing that's happened to him that day. Ask him to call you a cab, even though you might not need one. A delightful surprise might ensue. In-house restaurant is decent but pricey and a bit on the noisy side.

I love Kimpton properties in general - I've always found them to be top-notch, but with a unique style that keeps things interesting. This place was no exception. The decor is a bit Disney-esque, but fun for families, and not so overdone that you can't enjoy it as an adult. We were in a single room on the south side of the property. The room was small, but well done. The bed was extremely comfortable, and the room had everything we wanted - big fluffy towels, a nice TV, even a dock for my iphone that doubled as a radio/alarm. The hotel itself was very well maintained - good elevators, clean public spaces, very attentive staff. We checked in early, and after we asked about a place to grab a glass of wine with lunch, the concierge offered us free wine at the hotel restaurant (in lieu of the wine service they offer in the evenings).

The room was very well insulated and in general noise wasn't a problem, except the last night we were there (labor day) when the irish pub behind the hotel played loud, raucous music into the wee hours... To their credit, the hotel offered us a room discount when we mentioned the problem.

I would highly recommend the hotel itself, but the area of Fisherman's Wharf is a bit of a mixed bag. It looks like every other touristy ocean-front town in America: Ripley's Believe it or Not, a billion gift shops selling the same stuff, a couple ridiculously overpriced art galleries, hordes of tourists who seem to forget the traffic laws once they hit a critical mass, and kamikaze cab drivers honking like mad, trying to get through the masses. If that's your thing, then by all means stay here, or if you're prepared to hit the hotel and then hide out in your room, you'll be fine. If crowds aren't your thing, San Francisco in general might be a bad call, and the wharf in particular. Otherwise, it's a fun place and probably good for families who need to keep the kids entertained and don't mind paying to do so.

Hello, pdx3818,
So glad that you had a great time with us and we lived up to your expectations for a Kimpton hotel :). We did put some good money into mattresses, bedding, and windows, and I'm glad that all added up to wonderful rest for you (Irish outliers excepted!).
You're right that San Francisco is busy, and especially so in the summer. But, I hope you might give the Wharf area another shot at some point, since it can serve as a great jumping off point to exploring North Beach and Chinatown to the South or -- for more tranquility -- Crissy Field, the Presidio, Golden Gate Bridge, and Sausalito/Tiburon areas to the West and North. I also love to recommend the boutique shops along Polk, Union, and Chestnut streets for those who like a really local retail experience within walking distance.
