“Characterful and peaceful”
Reviewed January 4, 2013

We spent our first night in San Francisco closer to the centre of town before moving out to the Inn on the Presidio, After a slightly stressful taxi ride (the driver couldn't find the hotel) we arrived at the beautiful characterful inn. Our room was extremely spacious - more suite like really - which mean the kids could sleep in sitting room whilst we had the bedroom. The evening wine and cheese and breakfast buffet were delicious. I was concerned that we would be too far from the thick of things being on the Presidio, but there is a free bus downtown and we walked back from Fisherman's Wharf in about 45 minutes. It was also very close to the Golden Gate bridge and we walked there another day. If you want to be in the thick of things, then the Inn on the Presidio is not for you, but we loved the peace and the stunning views over the Bay.

The Inn and the Presidio is cute and quaint. The rooms are clean and the bed is comfy. We were traveling with a 2 year old and I emailed them twice to request a crib and never got a response. When we got to our room, there was a pack and play with no crib sheet. They said that pack and plays don't need sheets. Not true. We stayed there for three nights and the staff was attentive and breakfast was nice. A big downside is no room service and no walkable restaurants. We had to plan out all of our meals (except for breakfast) and drive to the Marina to do quick errands. All in all, it was an okay stay but I wouldn't recommend it with young children.

This was a fantastic place to stay. Everthing was great. The staff were amazing, the wine and cheese terrific, the firepit so welcoming. Nothing is too much trouble. Thanks to all....we will be back. The Disney museum is just down the road and well worth a visit. It is not in the center of the city and we caught cabs or the presidio bus service. We loved the location and sense of history. The fit out was gorgeous. It felt like home when we walked through the door.

Room Tip: we were on third floor and had a great view of the bay.

I was at this hotel yesterday for a company meeting. While I didn't stay at the hotel and didn't book the meeting room. It was definitely a place I would stay in the future. The charm, historic location and excellent staff would be the reasons I would return.

From the moment we checked in, until we left, we received friendly, helpful service. Driving in after dark in the rain was a bit stressful in an area we were not familiar with, so a friendly greeting was very much appreciated. Our room was neat and clean. Wine, cheese and crackers awaited us once we were settled in. After dining at the Presidio Social Club, our room was quiet, comfortable and restful. The next morning, a lovely breakfast was available and the front porch was a nice place to have a nice cup of coffee to start the day. Certainly would recommend the Inn at the Presidio for business or pleasure.

A historic building, previously bachelor quarters for officers, converted into a 22 room boutique hotel provides for a wonderful stay in a beautiful setting. The concierge called the evening before to ask if we needed transportation, reservations for dinner or any other services (I love this type of attention to customer service and detail!). Upon arrival, we were greeted with great service and the wine/cheese reception from 5 - 7pm. The room was huge with a plush king sized bed, large bathroom, with huge shower. Windows open wide to let in the fresh ocean air (as Crissy Field, Baker and the bay is only a couple miles away). We were provided with a map of the hiking trails and they even have a few mountain bikes to borrow. Unfortunately, it rained on us the next morning and we only had a short 30 minutes to walk around the complex. We definitely want to go back and spend more time! What a special place....

We enjoyed our stay at the Inn at the Presidio. It is an inn atmosphere which was a different experience for us. Thankfully, since our flight was long,we were told we needed to get snacks and drinks for our room as there is no room service only the refrigerator with drinks. We arrived with suitcases and there is no elevator; they offered to take our bags up, but we are healthy and handled it ourselves. There is breakfast and it was suitable. Our beds were comfortable, the bathroom was acceptable and there is enough room in our suite for 3 adults to move about without problems. The surrounding area has woods to walk and there are views to the SF bridge and bay. The reception and housekeeping staff are helpful and friendly. It is a pleasant and safe place to stay while visiting the sites around San Francisco. Tranquil and non-intrusive, just what we required on our holiday. The internet was acceptable and we all three had ipads, iphones, laptops heavily engaged for business. It would have been more pleasant to have another tv in the bedroom but not anything to dissuade us from returning. Muir Woods is a must, and next time we will spend more time visiting the Redwoods and Sequoias.

Room Tip: Get a suite.
