“Movie set decor; great service; delicious floats and shakes”
Review of The Ice Cream Bar

The decor is like the set of a movie. Even the uniforms are traditional outfits which adds the charm.

The service is wonderful. The girl at the ice cream bar was super patient with our questions and let us have a lot of samples without being stingy. She was also very helpful on the phone. I wish I knew her name!

The soda jerk behind the counter, Adam, was also very helpful. We sat at the counter and so got to talk to him more.

The floats and shakes are delicious and freshly made. The cherry coke and orange-cicle type drinks were complex and delicious. Surprisingly, I didn't really like the root beer float that much even though that's why I went - because of the amazing reviews here on TripAdvisor. I am a root beer afficionada, and found it lacking in complexity, mainly because of the ice cream. The quality is not that great, especially when compared to somewhere like McConnell's in Santa Barbara. The texture is somewhat gummy and lacking in proper mouth feel. Also, the flavors are quite artificial seeming.

The shakes and drinks, however, are fresh, most likely because they make these from scratch.

A little on the pricey side and seating -- as well as parking -- can be a bit of a challenge.

When visiting the city, stop by and grab an ice cream. Homemade with flavors changing but if you like bananas, get the banana pudding flavor. The cones are also homemade and a treat by themselves.

This place is popular. I went to get ice cream before the place closed and it was packed with people. This place had adventures ice cream flavors such as basil but also original flavors like strawberry. You can taste ice creams before choosing the one you want. Ice cream waffle cones are fresh and made at The Ice Cream Bar. The place had amazing 50's vibe and the staff was friendly and helpful. If you are looking for an ice cream I would recommend this place.

This little ice cream shop /soda fountain is super cute, has a quiet seating area, friendly service and most importantly delicious ice cream - some of the best I have ever had. Inventive flavors (I had caramelized honey and tasted blackberry corn both yummy) but also classics (son had vanilla in chocolate chip cookie sandwich). Off the tourist grid but only about a mile from Alamo square. Worth the detour for sure!
