“Not your mama's Mexican”
Reviewed December 22, 2012

A small, unique outpost of Mexican cuisine only one mile away from the Mission District has got to be good in order to stay in business! Papito succeeds because they offer "twists" on the usual fare (duck tacos) and it's all very fresh. I do think it's a tad expensive but the portions are a good size. I've never timed it right weather-wise to be able to sit outside (a few small tables on sidewalk) and the inside is loud (due to space acoustics) when the place fills up. I'm not sure you'd want to go there with anything bigger than a party of four but it's a charming date night spot for two at their mini bar/counter.

“Modern mexican - Oh so good”
Reviewed December 6, 2012

We went to Potrero to go to another highly rated yelp restaurant. Unfortunately, the place was packed and the line was at least an hour wait. So pulled out my trusty blackberry (yes, im sticking with it), and found aother interesting restaurant nearby. Fortunately for us it ended up being a fantastic pick. This is no ordinary mexican spot, but rather a nice modern take on classics. What i also liked was the freshness of the ingredients. I had the duck quesadilla and my girlfriend had some sort of Torta.... Both were exquisite! The ambiance was also very nice. Papito himself can be found right behind the counter. Always a good sign.

Cheers!

“everything tasty”
Reviewed August 2, 2012

Homemade Mexican/central American food. We had ceviche, burrito, duck quesadilla, & tacos. Everything was very good, service good, as always seating is much better when you come before the dinner rush - we were there around 4:15. Service very good, seating quite limited.

“Very Nice Lunch”
Reviewed April 21, 2012

My wife and I went to Papitos for lunch, and liked it so much we went back again for lunch a couple of days later.

Papitos has a small seating area, but on sunny days they put extra tables out front. The menu is not large, and they don't have some traditional mexican dishes (like tamales or rellenos) on their standard menu. But what they did have was superb. My wife had the fish tacos on both visits, and thought they were some of the best she had ever had (way better than what she had on Fisherman's Wharf, but that is another story . . . ). I had the "super steak burrito" both visits. The burrito was huge and tasty, and even though I am a big eater I had to take part of it back home with me after the meal. The server won't automatically bring you tortilla chips and salsa, but if you ask for chips they bring them out (free of charge). The Papitos chips were homemade and divine, and Papitos also gives you a sampler of three different salsas, very nice. So if you want something a bit different in the way of Mexican food, give Papitos a try.

Reviewed March 18, 2012

Fantastic small restaurant that oozes charm with fantastic organic food, intimate charm and a refreshing take on the other Mexican options - reminds me of an intimate french bistro, few tourists to be found here a real local treat. Try the shrimp quesadilla you won't be sorry!!
