“Yummy Lunches”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 19, 2014

This is my favorite lunch spot in Hayes Valley. The granola with yogurt and fruit can't be beat. In fact, I liked it so much the first time I had lunch here, I just kept ordering it every time and never got around to trying anything else, but everybody else seems to be enjoying whatever they ordered. It is always crowded and there is always a line. The place is definitely not a secret hideaway that nobody knows about. Lots of locals know about it very well and keep coming back.

In addition to the sit-down restaurant, there is also a wonderful bakery featuring all manner of very special pastries. If you were to say to the clerk: "I'd like a loaf of regular white bread, please" you would get a very strange look, but if you want top-of-the-line croissants, they have many kinds available.

“wonderful coffee house”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 3, 2014

great place to get a coffee and pastry, and relax on a Sun morning. Caramel latte was outstanding and the egg on a crousant was delicious. only downside was the long wait, as we had a large group and the staff forgot to prepare some of the food.

“Really good pastries”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 26, 2014

Had the chocolate hazelnut croissant. Very tasty. Bought coconut congolais in the package to go. Chewy and delicious. It was really busy on a saturday morning - line was almost out the door, but it moves fast.

“Great neighborhood bakery with a line to/out the door.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 17, 2014

Found this place walking by. Neighborhood bakery with a line to/out the door. Best was almond croissant. Mushroom soup average, French onion needed more cheese, sticky bun delicious, croissants delicious. Great ambiance, great service. We like this part of town to drink and eat. Absinthe for drinks, la Boulange for snack and pastries for breakfast in hotel, Bar Jules for dinner.
For transportation consider the bus. Bus 21 provides regular, safe service from Market Street near Powell to Hayes Street near Absinthe. Taxi also easy to get outside Absinthe. On street parking available but takes awhile to find someone leaving their spot.

“Try the almond croissant!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 28, 2013 via mobile

What more could one wish for? A crisp sunny Hayes' October morning, sitting on the outdoor bench, excellent café au lait and loads of time on my hand. La Boulange does a terrific almond croissant, rich and tasty. The place was clearly overstaffed for a tranquil Monday morning, thus I had the best service and the broadest smiles ever.
