We actually went to this Cafe four times during our visit to SF. It was right down the street from the Metro Hotel where we were staying. We experienced the cafe at mid afternoon for coffee, early in the morning for breakfast, and late in the evening fro wine and beer following a wedding reception.

Their drip coffee is fabulous, breakfast sandwiches filling and artfully made. Service at all hours was good.

It is a nice spot for visitors to the city to spend time in a place the locals frequent.

Thank threefold

This spot wasn't open in Spring, 2010 during our first visit to Lower Haight, but Café Divis is a welcome addition to Divisadero for morning coffee, located as it is, just down the block from the wonderful Hotel Metro, which we have made a home away from home when in SFO for a variety of good reasons (reviewed). We like the Metro very much, and I only wish they would install a communal coffee pot in the lobby, as I need my morning fix almost right away.

Like everybody else, I have a routine at home. Upon opening my eyes, the second thing I do is brew some coffee, and then shave. When traveling, this routine becomes interrupted. That's why I am so grateful that Café Divis, at the corner of Oak and Divisidero, is open early.

By day, the place is Café Divis and it's great for an extreme morning eye opener featuring individually dripped and giant beakers of Blue Bottle coffee. Even the Half-Caf was like jet fuel to me. We needed a chaser, which they cheerfully provided, with ice. I also enjoyed their fresh croissants and a cold glass of V-8 during each of the two visits we made. I found the service to be very friendly, and prompt. The two young men and the young lady who work the counter were very courteous and friendly, and the tables were spotless during the early morning visits we made. The first cup of coffee had spilled a little during its drip and the barristo brewed more and gave that to me gratis.

Muchas Gracias!

Café Divis was a good spot to collect your thoughts, make notes, take notes, or transcribe notes or catch up on your morning 'read' over a delicious cup of nitro-infused java.

By night, the place is Café Vinyl and is a wine bar. I did not visit the establishment at night, only walking past it en route to the hotel, but the décor of CD-CV and its furnishings do double duty. It kind of looks like a bar that also serves breakfast. Large art prints of Nat King Cole, Bruce Springsteen and a few other musicians hang from the high ceiling. The front corner, where we hung out, features a really large couch. There is a memorable table in the place, glass topped, featuring a large overhead street sign for Broadway. I am assuming this wasn't nicked from NYC but refers to the North Beach thoroughfare, home to storied strip joints, clip joints, and ancient, shall we say 'sporting' houses...
