The food here was excellent and we were all really impressed. The pea pancakes are delicious, as are the different types of sausages with sauerkraut and potatoes (the mash is fantastic!). There is a good range of German beers too. The only let down was the service as they forgot to bring out one of the sausages and then brought it out right at the end when we had finished eating, so we had to take it to go instead. That was slightly disappointing.

Who knew a simple little pretzel could be such an awesome appetizer! Every menu item we tried at Schmidt's was delicious. But the pretzels were sooo good we could have made a meal out of these warm, crusty treats. Dipped in a grainy, spicey mustard.....perfect! The spaetzle combined with a generous piece of chicken and a side order of absolutely the best potato salad ever was plenty to share. Loved the friendly, neighborhood feel. Very gracious servers. Simply decorated, clean and inviting for families as well as couples, this is a must visit for Mission neighborhood dining.

Great spaetzle, fun beer choices and the best potato salad ever. A must eat spot if you are looking for good eats in the Mission area.

Our niece suggested this for a change of pace, from what we had been eating on an extended trip. It is at the corner of Folsom and 20th. During happy hour, they have a special where if you order their wurst special, you receive $6 each off your tab, or enough to pay for the beer. First the beer: they have an extensive selection of specialty beers from all over Germany, many that I've never seen. We all enjoyed what we'd ordered 2 really dark and one light. The rest are too lengthy to list here. The menu offers an interesting list of appetizers, soups and salads, again many different than I've seen on German menus elsewhere. Entrees include several schnitzels, and wurst plates, but for the deal mentioned you order off the wurst menu, where you can chose 1 or 2 which are then served with red potato salad, very tasty with a bit of horseradish in the sauce, and sauerkraut that has been sweetened by being cooked with wine and herbs. You have a choice of 10 different wursts including duck and vegetarian. We also ordered a side of spaetzle. Everything was superb. Perfectly cooked wurst, and tasty sides. For dessert we had their almond crescent marzipan, also very good. We were so impressed we went back the next night and had the same plates, but tried different wurst. By the way, don't expect the stein laden dark paneled German restaurant decor. It is friendly but plain and again the food is really good.
