“I love this hotel!”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

I have stayed at this hotel on several occassions and I have never been disappointed. The best part of staying at this hotel is the happy hour with includes an amazing city view. The rooms are clean, price is affordable, location great, and staff very friendly & helpful. The free breakfast buffet offered every morning is much appreciated and yummy. The hotel is also a museum which is very cool too.

Room Tip: Corner rooms are the best!

Marine Memorial Hotel is close to Union Square. We have stayed there twice. It is a gem for those who want value over luxury. Rooms are comfortable with small clean bathrooms. Staff is courteous, and helpful. We enjoyed the 2 hour "happy hour" in the dining room on the 12th floor which gives views of the harbor. The restaurant menu offers nice variety of entrees. Don't miss full breakfast buffet which is included.
Check out the performances at the MMH Theater. We enjoyed a Tango Lovers show in the small comfortable theater.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room, and validate parking ticket to save $10. Military library worth a visit.

We spent our 2 nights in San Francisco here and were pleased with the choice we made. Location is good, just a couple of minutes from Union Square with an abundance of shops, bars and restaurants to choose from. Two minutes from the nearest cable car stop - and about a 30 minute (uphill!!) walk to the harbour. Rooms are pleasant, maybe slightly dated but very comfortable. The hotel also offered a 2 hour 'free' happy hour which was a very welcome surprise! Breakfast was an average buffet affair but I found it slightly off-putting that despite it being self-service the staff would put a card on your table expecting a tip to be charged to your room. As the name of the hotel suggests there are close ties to the military and as a visitor from the UK it was quite moving to see how much respect there is for these guys.

We loved our stay here. My husband and I were at a conference that took place mostly in Union Square hotels. We were so glad to not be in those large, overpriced, anonymous-feeling behemoths! The service at MMCH was great. We loved the free breakfast as it was way beyond what you normally expect in a free hotel breakfast. The buffet was elegant and the servers friendly and professional. We enjoyed the happy hour also. Our room was clean and neat. The bed was comfortable. Our first night (Friday) we did hear the very loud music from a wedding taking place on the 11th floor and it lasted until midnight. We were on the 9th floor. That's the only reason I gave it 4 stars, not 5. So my suggestion is to ask for a lower floor if you are there on the weekend. We also had asked for a view, if possible, and we had a lovely view of San Francisco.

Room Tip: Lower floor on the weekend to avoid hearing any parties on the 11th floor. Ask for a view of Nob Hil...

Overall I really enjoy the Marines Memorial. It is in a great location and it is classic San Francisco. It is an older hotel with smaller rooms but I would take it any day over the modern hotels that lack any local feel.

We are "member" of MMC and stay many times during the year. As VIP members we "can be upgraded" if possible upon check-in...well after 8 stays we were upgraded to a suite 405! It is huge with very tall ceilings, fairly quiet for the area except for the drunks late and night and the early am garbage collection...but the windows were so dirty you had trouble seeing out...even tho it is very huge in space, it was lacking in a full length mirror and proper light in the "foyer" . We did have a plugged toilet that was quickly repaired.
Also had dinner in the Leatherneck restaurant...this was our 4th dinner there and it quite frankly is not worth the price...stay there eat else were. The best thing about the club is the wonderful location...don't expect grand anything this is bare bones basic.....

As a member I got a great rate at the MMC Hotel, situated in a fantastic spot a block from Union Square with all of its amenities. Perfect location for a jog around the city or a short walk to Chinatown. Super nice room with slightly dated but perfectly adequate amenities (furniture and bathroom). Museums and restaurant/bar (with spectacular view of the city and great included breakfast and manager's happy hour) onsite. "Good value" (for SF) parking nearby. All in all a great visit!

Room Tip: rooms vary widely (I've stayed here before) so best to check the room first if you are picky.
