“a bit dated but everything was fine”
Reviewed August 2, 2012

Stayed 2 nights at the Marines Club in late July 2012. Everything was fine but the basic room was quite small and needs some updates.
They offered complimentary breakfast which was excellent and free cocktail hour each day from 4 - 6pm. These were very nice offerings that would bring me back.

We signed up for the Marine's Memorial Association and stayed at the San Francisco Hotel for the first time Saturday the 21st. The hotel is lovely, well-appointed and peacful. The bed and sheets and pillows very very comfortable. Bathrooms clean and very nice. The breakfast is WONDERFUL. They have happy hour as well but the wedding party for the wedding they were having that day overtook it. The host was VERY helpful even so.
Overall this is a terrific hotel and we'll come back again and again.

What a gem in the heart of downtown San Fransisco! There is nothing to complain about when it comes to this lovely hotel. The service is top notch, the rooms were lovely, clean and comfortable. The complimentary happy hour each day from 4-6pm is an unexpected bonus and the breakfast buffet leaves you wanting for nothing. Valet parking is right down the street with in/out privileges, though we didn't need our vehicle the entire stay as the hotel location is in such a convenient location.

The staff is very friendly and knowledgable of the city. The concierge was fairly helpful and knowledgable but they don't always point you exactly where you want to go when describing the kinds of restaurants you want to go to. The beds are very comfortable and the pillows are AMAZING! The breakfasts are complementary and very delicious. Great amenities and a very historical building.

Was in San Francisco for a convention. Took Bart to Powell street and lugged my luggage up to MMC. Slight grade in the beginning with one block of a steep grade, but not too bad. This is an older hotel and not real bright on the inside, but clean. Refrig in room. First floor CLUB One offers free excercise and includes a pool, classes, machines. Very nice and good hours. Breakfast was a real treat with fresh orange juice, eggs, fruit, oatmeal, breads and cereal. Happy hour from 4-6 nightly. Free drinks. Dont forget to tip the waiters for the free bees. Location is in the middle, about 1 block from the trams to the bay. Nice shopping nearby. Staff was very helpful with directions, resturaunt recomendations, etc.

Room Tip: My room was fine, although a little dark.

We traveled to San Francisco for a wedding and thought we would try out “our” club. We had joined two years ago but never visited. I am so glad we did. It was great. Even with the renovations this place had the feel of a great old city hotel. We walked into a great lobby, received a friendly greeting from the doorman, a welcoming check in at the front desk, then a really nice room. With the room came a big buffet breakfast in the 10th floor dining room (Think great view). Also there was a 2 hour happy hour after a long day of taking in the town. The location is perfect, one block from the Powell Street cable car. If you can, join this organization and make this your home in SF.

Me and my husband stayed 3 nights in a king size room on the 5th floor where the memorial plates were hung on the corridor walls. As we went in the hotel's main door I saw that hotel really deserves the name. Lots of badges, pictures, stuff etc were placed over the walls like a exhibition or a museum about marines. The receptionist was hospitable and after 5 minutes time we were done and going up with elevator to our room. We didn't see any welcome basket of fruits or cookies contrary to eileenm28's review. It wasn't a defect anyway. Room, bathroom, towels were clean. Only problem we had was on the last morning of our stay. We woke up with the noise coming from the next room. Really it was disturbing because we could hear the neigbours' laughing and conversation. They must be talking loudly; what we did is just simple. We knocked on the wall 3 times. Then it was silent.
The breakfast was on the 12th floor, it had a nice scene if you can sit on a table near the window your breakfast will be great. We were seated after a few minutes. Breakfast itself was reasonable. The staff frequently asked if we would like to have more orange juice or something else.
First night of our stay we needed a AAA battery and it was midnight. Thanks for security because he handled a pack of batteries which he bought from market next door at that time. Next morning when he saw me he asked if I'm okey with the batteries :)
I must say that it's location is really good because it's close to union square, BART Powell St. and cable car station. All these points are a 10 minutes walk away I guess. So if I go back to SF, I'll certainly check Marines for stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a silent room not because of the traffic but the people nextdoor.
