“Poor Quality”
Reviewed November 12, 2013

This might have been the worst hotel my husband & I have stayed at. The room was small, old and smelled like a funeral parlor. Paint was chipping in several areas of the room, the bed needed a new box spring, the pipes rattled when you took a shower, pedestal sink left no room for storage, bathroom door would not shut or lock and toilet is something I would only expect to see in a public restroom. Ice machine was out of ice the 3 times I tried to use it. We didn't deal with the staff so I can't speak on how their service was. The location is probably the only decent thing about the hotel. I would never stay here again, even for free.

Firstly, location was great, with easy walks to Union Square, Shopping, etc.
Secondly, the location was bad, being on the main run for fire trucks, day and night, with sirens blaring, and horns used at every intersection.
Thirdly, the hotel is old, and desperately in need of some renovation. The room we had was small, but comfortable, but the bathroom was tiny. Paintwork substandard, with paint marks all over the bathroom window. Chipped paintwork everywhere else. The staff were polite but a little disinterested, and the Concierge service was sub-standard (by comparison).
No room service, but quite a good Bar/Restaurant on the Ground Floor, with a good range of draft beers, and some very friendly and helpful waiters.

Having arrived in San Francisco without our luggage, thanks to British Airways, the hotel staff couldn't have been more helpful, particularly Eduardo on Concierge and Jackie on Front Desk, both certainly went above and beyond anything one might have expected.
As to the hotel have to agree with most other reviewers. Great location, rooms tired but adequate. We were on the second floor front overlooking the busy road but didn't bother us that much as waking early on UK time.

I just checked into this hotel, having never stayed here before, and having booked it on a site that had it rated as three stars. That category has included such hotel brand names as Marriott and Hilton. The room is tiny. There is a single full size bed, which is the largest that the room can accommodate, as even with the smallish bed, there is scarcely enough room to walk between the foot of the bed and the closest furnishing. The room has peeling and chipped paint in numerous locations; the closet (which is the most unexpectedly nice feature of the room due to being fairly large) has exposed wires in the ceiling where a light fixture should be; and the bathroom features the smallest sink I have ever encountered outside an aircraft.

We had some issues with our flight that were out of our control, so we called ahead to let the hotel know about the situation. They were helpful and checked us in the night before our actual arrival, without charging us for the night. Everyone at the hotel were very friendly and helpful.
The building itself is centrally located in the South of Market district and very convenient to walk to a lot of places including the SFMoMA and the Metreon. Even with the busy street outside of our window, we did not hear outside noise at any point of our stay.
There were two areas that we feel need improvement: the bed and the shower. Our king bed was spacious, but it was too firm and we could not fall into deep sleep, which is unusual for us. We both woke up with aching necks. The shower took longer than expected (at least 5 minutes) to get hot water out of it. The shower head itself could have performed better too. Overall, we liked the hotel and would stay here again if the beds are comfortable.

When I arrived I had the pleasure to have Greg assist me. Greg went above and beyond to make sure my stay was perfect. I will definitely stay here again just because of Greg. Louie went out of his way to get me a private car. Louie greeted me with a warm smile and was ready to take care of my travel needs. I enjoyed my trip to the fullest and made two friends. Looking forward to returning before April.

In SF for Nike Women's marathon. Booked thru Priceline.com when most other local hotels sold out. Good location, hotel OK, but parking difficult. Park next door at retail shopping center to skip hassle and save yourself $8/day.
