Hotel was a bit dark, was expecting a high floor with a view as requested.....but no. and reception didn't even try to accommodate in any way. That's what you are getting and that's that.
Location was good for trams, bikes buses etc. Car valet parking was really expensive 45 dollars a day.....but you can take your car in and out as many times as you want ...they said. Oh well that will be a bargain then. Our room looked over into another room and was very dark, no fridge and bathroom a bit small. This was our last stop whilst in America and wish we had booked somewhere else as this was the most disappointing hotel we stayed at our whole trip.
Golden Gate Bridge was amazing, although I think our Forth Road rail bridge take a lot of beating in Scotland. Cable cars are a must, but do get busy and you wait ages sometimes.

Breakfast was mental, people diving about everywhere and grabbing things and butting in the line,Tables should be cleaned a bit more than they were. Didn't like that fact that breakfast was literally happening out into reception as breakfast room too small for everyone.

Good location, but there must be somewhere to stay better than this in San Fran with a view.

Room Tip: The hotel is clean and tidy but rooms are dark. Stay somewhere else is you can

Thank you for staying with us at the Holiday Inn Express FIsherman Wharf San Francisco and we apologize for our staff not able to get you a room on high floor with a view. Unfortunately, most of our rooms are interior rooms, but next time if you visit San Francisco, we could try our best to get you a high floor room. Also thank you for the feedback with our breakfast situation, we will be changing our breakfast situation in near future to change the flow of the breakfast to make our guests more convenience for breakfast. Hope to see you again next time when you visit San Francisco.

Thank you

We stayed just over a week at this hotel and overall, enjoyed it very much! The staff were helpful, the room was clean and the beds were comfy! You also cannot beat the location with close proximity to all of the touristy things/places you want to go to.

The breakfast was a bit repetitive but still nice to have to begin the day with although it did get very crowded and took awhile to both get food and find a table/seating as you get closer to 9:30 when the breakfast service ends. Our main complaint was the price of in-room movie rentals which seemed exorbitant.

As well, when we had a problem with Tower Tours - a tour company that was recommended by the hotel staff, they compensated by providing us with two complimentary breakfast vouchers at their sister hotel next door - a gesture that was not required on their part but was very much appreciated.

So, overall, for the value, convenience and amenities, we would recommend staying at this hotel.

We spent 3 nights here in early July. The hotel is very clean and very big. The rooms are spacious, bathrooms clean and have tea/coffee making facilities. Water is available all day in reception. I agree Brandy is a star - could do with an employee award? Safes in the rooms are key operated. Easy walk to Pier 49 and cable cars. If you want to go to Alcaltraz you need to book in advance, they sell about 2 months ahead. When we went there were no tickets available until mid Aug. breakfast was good (cereals, fruit juice, fruit, pancakes, scrambled eggs etc) but very busy and we did have to wait and pounce for a table. Big downer is the parking at $45 per night - I did suggest that for that the car expected a duvet, a bedtime story and a wake up call!! There is wifi in the lobby but not in the rooms, we were told they are working in this so hopefully will have it soon. Guests can use the pool in the nearby Holiday Inn but it was closed when we were there. Do be aware that it can be chilly in San Francisco, especially if you are heading there after being inland, we went from 110 to 62 degrees overnight - yuk!! You can get a very good value 3 days ticket for the cable cars rather than the $6 single ride, well worth it. We lost a souvenir item from our room whilst there, OK it was only an empty decorated bottle but we left two bottles, both empty, exactly the same on the table and one disappeared. Maybe it got broken whilst cleaning but despite being told they would 'sort it' no one actually did anything and although they promised to email with an explanation none has arrived. Irritating!

Pleasant hotel within easy walking distance Fisherman's Wharf; ferry for Alcatraz and cable car terminus. Bike hire available next door and we cycled over the Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito which is worth a visit. The hotel staff were friendly, especially Brandy who is like a breath of fresh air, she is one lady who loves her job! The breakfast was adequate and we didn't experience any problems with seating during our visit. We used our loyalty points so cannot comment on value for money, however, we would return to this hotel.

San Fran, especially Fisherman's Wharf, was crawling with people during our stay over the 4th. We booked this hotel early in May and pre paid so I did save some money but being that our stay was for the holiday we paid $225 per night and then another $52 for parking per night.

Our room was very clean and spacious. There is not fridge or microwave but we had a cooler with us since this stay was part of a road trip.

My one complaint is that breakfast ends too early (9:30am). I wish we would have been told this at check in. On our 1st morning we showed up at 9:32 to find everything being locked up and torn down. There was enough left for us to scrounge a few things and a few fellow hotel guests gave us their unopened yogurts.

All in all, I would go back and set my alarm early to hit breakfast.

Hotel very good and excellent for Fishermans Wharf, Fish restaurants, Pier 39, Alcatraz, the start of the Big Red Bus for sightseeing tour and the start of the Cable Car. Even Lombard Street is in walking distance so we were very happy with this hotel. Bought a three day Bus pass and enjoyed the open top tour but make sure you wear a coat and if possible a hat when crossing the Golden Gate Bridge it gets very cold and windy. Took the Cable car into City centre $6 each and my wife enjoyed the fabulous shops, especially Macy's. The hotel has a Denny's attached but found far better meals at local places for breakfast and evening meals. A visit to Alcatraz is a must and very interesting. Enjoyed San Francisco very must on our four day stay before travelling to Hawaii.

Room Tip: Overlooked Anchorage Park

We had two rooms for a four night stay in mid-June. We wanted to be close to Fisherman's Wharf and Pier 39; our stay here several years ago was good so we decided to return. Check-in was fine, the room was clean and comfortable and the staff friendly.
The large breakfast area gets very busy but we did not have any problem finding a table. The selection of breakfast items was great with eggs, sausage, cereal, fruits, pancakes and pastries. The staff did fine with keeping the area replenished. The food items and beverages are in separate locations which helped alleviate congestion.
The location of this retro-looking hotel is hard to beat, especially if you want to be close to the wharf, Pier 39, Ghirardelli Square, boat tours and the cable car line; all were within easy walking distance.
The one negative is the cost of parking in the hotel garage; no parking in the area is cheap but $51.30 per night (including tax) is pricier than most, although in-and-out privileges were included.
All considered, our stay here was fine and we would certainly return.
