“Great Day Birding”
Reviewed November 6, 2013

I thoroughly enjoyed my full-day trip with Eddie and Noreen of Nature Trip. They met me at my hotel in downtown SF and were wonderful guides for an entire day of birding in Muir Woods and Point Reyes. They really know the area well and we stopped at several interesting hot spots along the way, and even caught a glimpse of a blue-footed booby!
They were very generous with their time and I'll definitely go out birding with them again on future visits to the Bay area.

“Rare birds for our life lists and the know-how to find them.”
Reviewed August 15, 2011

We were fortunate to meet two Nature Trip guides on an excursion they took to Southern Texas for the annual bird Migration. The Brownsville area is a great place to catch the migration in spring. In addition to the migration, many species of birds found there can not be seen elsewhere in the continental U.S.

The guides displayed an impressive knowledge of the area and knew how to find the birds we were looking for. We added many new species to our life lists and had a great time doing it.

We hope to take another "Nature Trip" with them soon!

“Now I know the difference between woodpeckers and wood pigeons!”
Reviewed August 4, 2011

If you’re like me, don’t know your woodpeckers from your wood pigeons, and want to spend a day learning more about the nature around San Francisco, then this is the trip for you.
I came across Nature Trip, run by Eddie and Noreen, on Trip Advisor. They might be fledglings in terms of the age of this venture – and they seem to have the foundations in place to make this a success-- but they’re real experts in the birdlife around SF. Both of them have strong connections to Audebon, the US equivalent of the RSPB in the UK.
They offer various trips to different places, and they are flexible according to the weather – after all, you can’t see anything in the fog and mist that descends on the city!
We paid 100 dollars each for the full day, no deposit required. We booked it with an exchange of e mails. Eddie and Noreen provided the transport, the food, and most of all, the expert knowledge.
We met outside the Ferry Terminal in SF, little Noreen nervously waving towards us. Eddie was waiting for us in his 4 x 4 about 100 yards away.
You don’t realise it, but there are plenty of places to look at wildlife in the Bay area, you just need to know where they are. We started at one location that was shrouded in fog, so we quickly decided to go south towards Palo Alto and a country park.
This was a real eye-opener. To the untrained eye and ear, there was hardly any life, but Eddie and Noreen could see plenty. They provided us with a pair of binoculars each, and most important of all, Eddie had a huge telescope which he used to zoom in on any bird that was perched in a tree or on a wire or fence. I think my highlight of the trip was when Noreen said that she could hear a woodpecker, and sure enough we spotted a group of five, all busily and happily pecking the top of a telegraph pole. Eddie zoomed in so we could have a better view – just like the nature documentaries you see on tv. They know plenty about birds – they told us that they’ve got thousands of photos at home.
They took us to four other areas in the day long trip, wetlands and coastal, and had a great chat with them over lunch. They talked to us about their passion for conservation and the environment, and the pressure they put on the authorities in all sorts of ways to make provision for nature, especially in a park that’s been created just down from the baseball stadium in a derelict part of town. So their knowledge is more than just about birds, it’s also about plant life and marine life. Did you know that butterflies only live for 14 days, and they migrate northwards in generations?
And just to help us along the way, they gave us a checklist of the different types of birds to watch out for. We reckoned we saw over 60 – and now I know the difference between a woodpecker and a wood pigeon.
