“Long trek to see this island”
Reviewed March 30, 2013

You take one to two ferries to get here . No time is allotted for lunch so everyone is hungry. Finally after a one hour tram tour you are brought to a cafe with limited choices...everyone swamping the staff with orders all at the same time. Why not stagger the tours with the cafe? The tour is indeed scenic, but the wind is so cold off the bay. I rate it average only because the scenery is indeed beautiful, but getting here is exhausting and there should be time to have snacks or lunch before a long tour.

“Admired the scenic views but mostly a waste of time”
Reviewed March 28, 2013

I chose an alcatraz and angel island tour, made a big mistake. So much time consumed (3 hours ) just to visit angel island. The tram tour took one hour. Although the some views are good, for a tourist who wants to cover evrything SFO has to offer in 3-4days, it made me think that i should have booked the alcatraz package . But people here in the island are very nice and friendly.

Included as part of our Alcatraz tour, a pleasent surprise. Good tram tour of a lovely park with interesting history. Will go again when we have more time.

“Bike it!”
Reviewed March 23, 2013

I brought my mountain bike on the ferry to explore the island. Old buildings, overgrown gardens, hidden beach coves, and natural habitats. And did I mention stunning views? It's a great place to bring a picnic. Just make sure you don't miss your ferry back!

“Get ready to see San Francisco from the bay”
Reviewed March 16, 2013

Take the ferry over to the island and enjoy the views of San Francisco from the bay. If it's clear, you'll be able to see multiple bridges and experience some amazing vistas. When you're on the island you can hike or bike (bring your bike on the ferry -- either your own or one you can rent around the city). This is a great, great place to visit with active kids and/or adults. Not only do you get out onto the bay for a fraction of the cost of sailing cruises and tourist boats, but you get to see San Francisco from all angles, enjoy amazing California weather, get some exercise, etc. Perfect.
