The trails are quite steep to access, even for experienced bike riders. I recommend taking the little open aired tram. Bring a lunch from the deli @ Woodlands Market on Tiburon Blvd., then hop off of the tram @ a scenic spot, and enjoy lunch w/ a million dollar view.Avoid summer months...too cold & foggy. Come in spring or Sept/Oct.

The only reason it wasn't 5 stars was because of the seemly ending stairs at the beginning of the trek to the Immigration Station, and the fact the the boat only makes 1 trip over, from San Francisco. Once the stairs have been scaled, the 1 1/2 mile paved road to the Station is easy to traverse, and the views of the Bay are spectacular. the museum has no credit or debit machines, so cash or checks only. We were lucky enough to get a tour guide by the name of Marshall, who hails from Texas. He was very well acquainted with the subject matters, and anything that wasn't immediately clear was explained very well. Our treatment of immigrants was a shameful part of our history, especially toward the Asians (although nearly every nationality was represented), but I feel it necessary to add to our historical information to have a better sense of the hardships our ancestors went through to give us a better life.

This is a great place to go for a day. We take the first ferry to angel island from pier 39 and also take our bikes...you can rent bikes at pier 39 too. Back pack a lunch and take the whole day to enjoy the beautiful views of San Francisco and Marin county. Historical buildings to go through are amazing...especially if you love history. The immigration station is being restored and is amazing. Leave on the last ferry and you've had a beautiful day

My top recommendation to spend an 'active' day in San francisco.

This is a top-5 hike in the bay area, especially if you are in SFO.

Start a day long trip by taking the ferry to Angel island, do the 5 mile loop hike, making sure you'll be done to catch the last ferry back. (Set 3 - 4 hrs for the hike). Then spend the rest of the evening/night enjoying the sights at Fisherman's warf, and finish off by taking in clam chowder in a sourdough bread!

The hike itself has some shade and some exposed regions. Weather is unpredictable, so bring a jacket. Kids shouldn't have problem - my 8 year old daughter completed the hike with very few complaints.

Do a search on 'angel island hike' for more details on the trail itself.

Beautiful sans francisci views. Nice boat ride out of the city. And the hike to the summit is fun and the view after is amazing.
