“Great Experience”
Reviewed July 9, 2012

There are a few different vendors providing tours. We went out with SF Whale Tours. Had a near perfect day with generally calm waters. Our guide was a marine biologist who was very passionate about her work. She provided lots of information throughout the tour. We saw several Blue whales on our tour which was amazing as well as a couple harbor porpoise. Enjoyed the experience immensely. Remember to book well in advance as trips fill up quickly. One thing you need to know besides dressing warmly, is that whale watching is not like you might expect. Whales were clearly visible but always some distance away. Not like is often shown on TV or in magazines. Getting a decent picture can be difficult. Definitely a great experience I would recommend. Don't forget to take dramamine before you head out.

“Whale watching wit SF Whale Tours”
Reviewed July 8, 2012

We had an amazing trip with San Francisco Whale Tours. Captain Joe was very nice and helpful and the naturalist, Carla was very informed. I was wondering on the trip out on a grey cold day if we would see any whales but once Joe found the hot spot it was awesome. We saw several giant blue whales including one diving whose huge tail (fluke) seemed to move in slow motion and many humpbacks feeding all around us. Carla and Joe were also very informative about the ocean ecology and the ways we can help to preserve it. Definitely worth the time and money

“Wet & sea sick”
Reviewed June 23, 2012

Be prepared on this trip. The boat is fine whilst in calm waters but once out in the Ocean things become very wet and rough. Of the 12 or so people on our trip - about a quarter were sea sick. Mainly due to the rough seas and the Captain going at break neck speeds. We thought we had dressed appropriately with jeans, waterproof jackets, scarves and even gloves. NO -think wetter - you need complete waterprooofs or souwesters. I would love to say it was worth it but sadly just one grey whale at a distance only.

“What a treat!”
Reviewed June 22, 2012

I thought I had done and visited all what was possible in the bay area. What a treat this trip was! I was a bit skeptical going into it as we had re-scheduled our trip numerous times due to weather and various conflicts for several months. We believed the peak watching season to be over. We finally made the trip in mid June. We watched probably around 10 whales of three types (gray, blue, humpback). Bird watching was also fun at the islands. Captain and guide went out of their way to make the trip enjoyable, informative and safe for everybody. We were blessed with awesome weather and I'm sure that made a lot of difference.

“Whale Watching on the Kitty Kat”
Reviewed June 21, 2012

Wow! What a trip! We visited SF in May and booked this trip in advance so that we were guaranteed a place. The boat is fairly basic however the captain and the guide were obviously extremely experienced and we felt in very safe hands at all times. It was a lovely sunny day when we left the bay however once you get out on the open water it is freezing so take plenty of warm clothes! Luckily, we went on a really calm day so we didn't get wet at all. We saw around 10 whales, all humpbacks and it was an unbelievable experience. I would highly recommend that you take this trip if you vist SF, obviously there is no guarantee that you will see a whale however you will see some amazing wildlife. I will be coming back for seconds! thank you for a wonderful day
