Description: Tacolicious is by no means a traditional taqueria-you won't find burritos here. What started out in the summer of 2009 as a little taco stand at the Thursday Ferry Plaza Farmers Market with a fittingly frivolous name, has become a sit-down, cocktail-driven restaurant, 120 tequilas strong. Tacos anchor a menu that extends to dishes such as beet salad with grapefruit and pumpkin seeds, tuna tostadas, grilled squid served Veracruz-style, albondigas, shrimp a la diabla, and toasted coconut flan. Like many native Californians, Mexican food is in us. Though we grew up traveling to Mexico regularly (and still do), it took a trip to Mexico City-where the food is served in settings as sophisticated and urban as you'll find anywhere in the world-for us to realize that tacos don't have to be relegated to street food or a corner mom-'n'-pop. We're proud to be based in San Francisco, a town where the words local, sustainable and organic have become so redundant that they make you want to yawn. But just in case you were wondering about our menu: The answer is almost always, "Yes, yes and yes."

“Yes, It Really is That Good!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 7, 2013

Based on other reviews, we decided to stop by at the Chestnut Street location as part of our wanders through the Marina district a nice sunny Saturday afternoon.

At a little past 1:30, the place was packed! The patio and bar were both full and we opted to wait for one of their small tables. After about 15 minutes, we were seated at one of the window tables and started our lunch with a nice glass of Champagne. We grazed our way through their excellent chips and salsa before settling of starters of calamari - deep, spicy smoky and tender; and the Tilapia ceviche - firm meaty fish, bright with citrus and the crunch of apple.

We then switched to margaritas with one of us having the violently colored nopal, with the other ordering the picante. While we are enjoying these delightful beverages we shared a taco four-pack of chicken en mole colorado, chorizo con papas and two of the pork taco of the week. All were really, really good with the pork special being our favorite.

We then finished off the meal with a nice margarita fresca which could almost be considered a palette cleanser with a nice background note of ginger adding a little heat.

Despite the number of diners (most of whom seem to be very much locals), the service was great and the staff well informed. Overall a place that's bright and boisterous with a definite happy buzz - And I can see why! We will be back.

“Shots and Tacos”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 4, 2013

We ordered a full tray of every different type of taco they offer. The barbacoa, shrimp, and carnitas were excellent. Fried tilapia was so-so. Get a few of the mixed shots. Dangerously good

“Lives up to its' name”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 12, 2013 via mobile

There we were in Cow Hollow, tired from a day of walking around this beautiful city. We spied Tacolicious and gave it a try. What a find! The kale salad was amazing, the tuna tostadas incredible, and the chicken mole taco was so good we could have eaten many more. A friendly staff and outdoor seating made the experience even more delightful.

“Best tacos and margaritas I ever had”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 6, 2013 via mobile

Was visiting SF from the east coast and someone suggested we visit this place in the marina district. Small, low key, casual place with awesome food. My boyfriend and I tried 4 different tacos which were all awesome. Think the short ribs one was my favorite. Also tried the passion fruit margarita which was yummy as could be. The location on chestnut street is nice for window shopping. Not a place to linger over a meal but a great place for excellent food and drink in a great location.

“Excellent Mexican Food!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 24, 2013

Friend who lives in the bay area took us here saying it was the best around. Whilst I can't compare it to anything else in the area, I can tell you it was superb. It was very busy though, but guess that's the price you pay of having such good food! The place was packed and they said they could squeeze the three of us in a fairly small table in the corner. Was slightly cramped but we were delighted to even get a table it was so packed. The food came out in reasonable time and was superb. Highly Recommended.
