Owner description: The Real SF Tour offers 4 incredible tours merging sightseeing and trekking with public transit for the most authentic visitor experience in San Francisco. Part urban adventure, part urban trek, and totally green, The Real SF Tours take you where no other tours can go. You’ll visit enchanted gardens, secret stairways, glorious rooftop views, and some of the city’s coolest neighbourhoods. You’ll be avoiding large crowds of tourists while experiencing the real culture of San Francisco and learning about its rich and storied history. You’ll traverse the city on Cable Cars, Light Rail, and City Buses. You must be able to walk 4 separate uphill 1.5 block sections, there are a total of 6 uphill flights of stairs, and 15 downhill flights of stairs, spread throughout the day. The day encompasses over 5 miles of walking including short uphill sections and hidden stairways that most people find extremely enjoyable. If you do not walk regularly this tour may be more challenging than enjoyable. If you have any difficulty going up and downstairs we do not recommend this tour. Please only wear comfortable closed toe walking shoes. Tours run daily departing from the California St Cable Car turnaround.

“Awesome tour to get feel for San Fran”
Reviewed December 8, 2013

This tour was a real unexpected jewel. It takes you to the local highlights and covers much of the city. Great for first-timers like us. Our tour guide, Hudson, was a font of knowledge and good humoured. The walking is not too strenuous and you get to catch much of the public transport so you feel comfotable gping back on your own to explore more. Highlight was the Mission district. The lunch venue was only average considering the great places there are to chose, but you're not there for lunch I guess. Well worth it! Hudson is a star. Make sure you get a day when he's on.

“A MUST DO”
Reviewed December 6, 2013 via mobile

If visiting SF, do this as soon as you arrive. It opened our eyes to the heart and secrets of San Francisco. Our guide, Hudson, shared his own love of SF history with us. His stories and explanations were fascinating. The groups are limited to 10 but on this December day there were just 4 and we thoroughly enjoyed exploring together. Hudson showed us the highlights over 7 hours: Chinese fortune cookies being made in the traditional way, famous zig zagging Lombard St, upmarket Russian and Nobb Hill, the painted ladies, alternative Castro district etc. We ate a delicious lunch at Hayes and Kebab and specialised ice cream further along. We became familiar with the Muni transport systems and Bart and cable cars. We now feel comfortable finding our own way around the city and a better idea of where we want to go. This is certainly the best walking tour I have done and Hudson brought the city alive for us. Although tired after our 7 hours wandering, the tour was not exhausting (and we are not young!). I was sad it had to come to an end eventually. The experience not only opened up SF for us but put a positive spin on our whole visit to this city. If you don't mind walking, this is a more hands-on experience than a bus tour and far superior to my mind.

“Had a Great Time!”
Reviewed December 6, 2013

We were two families with teenagers. Everyone loved it! We were a little exhausted afterwards - but it was worth it. We went all over the place - and it was fun riding the buses/trolleys everywhere. Our tour guide was great. She knew everything.

“Fabulous SF City Tour - Highly Recommended”
Reviewed December 1, 2013

We commenced our six days in San Francisco with the Real S.F. Tour. Hudson was our guide and he was very knowledgeable and a pleasure to be around. I highly recommend this tour, especially if Hudson is the tour guide.

“Highlight of The Year for me, a 30 year San Francisco resident”
Reviewed November 29, 2013

I took this tour with two of my friends from the east coast during their recent visit. Learned more in this fun-filled day than in all my time living here, a rich history coming alive underneath our feet and the cobblestones below the modern layers of San Francisco. Historian and scholar Hudson Lee answered questions and defined the many neighborhoods we visited with as much color and grit as the early natives and settlers of this great city must have had. Historically it was fascinating, physically the tour is organized and timed beautifully to incorporate public transportation between long walks through cosmopolitan neighborhoods and hikes thorough woodlands from the shores of the bay to inner city sidewalks - I want to do this tour again with some of my local friends and for anyone who has lived here and loves it already, it only adds to the reason why I love this part of the world so much.
