We enjoyed mussels and boeuf bourguignon here on a visit to San Francisco. It was three blocks from our hotel and Union Square, and a great neighborhood alternative to Chinatown. Food was quite good and service/atmosphere was friendly. They sell a wide variety of international magazines, and it feels like a mini-trip to Europe. I would gladly go there again.

Great breakfast, good strong coffee and friendly staff. I enjoyed the quaint cafe ambiance too. My husband and I had the French toast which was good but heavy handed on the butter.

We have been missing French cuisine since returning from our last trip to France, so we were quite pleased to chance upon Café de la Presse in the heart of the downtown area in San Francisco. The atmosphere and décor are attractive and welcoming. We had a group of 5 and the hostess had no trouble accommodating us rapidly and comfortably.
The menu choices included a good variety of main dishes, although there was no plat du jour offered on a Saturday evening. The dinners came reasonably promptly and were very well presented. There is a fairly extensive wine list, but the prices for the French wines were much higher than we had paid in France. Everyone enjoyed their main dish (Poulet Roti, Boeuf Bourguignon, Bavette, Salmon) with one exception - a gnocchi dish with braised vegetables. That dish was a bit dry and lacked a distinctive flavor. On the other hand, the baked mac & cheese side dish was wonderful.
We would definitely go back to this restaurant again.

Our party of two couples were greeted by a not so friendly person who sat us which seemed to be an inconvenience for him. We were crammed into a corner table of two small tables pushed together in which we felt the table next to us was practically sitting with us. Although the food wasn't bad, we had had much better at another restaurant for a lot less that didn't charge us for refills. The waiter was nice but every time he had to lean over one of us to serve or bring a new drink he smelled of smoke. Just not a pleasant experience. A $100 breakfast so not worth it for the food quality and price.

From the outside the place has all the charm of a French cafe. Inside we were greeted by a smug host who was busy pricing magazines and had a flip attitude as to whether we were there it not. He looked like Cam from the show Modern Family and set the tone for our breakfast. He had attitude and smugness written all over him, smirking when others left because they didn't want to wait for a table. When seated we found the menu to be limited and very over priced. The food was prepared average at best. Had we not been on a schedule we would have gotten up and left. Want to improve service? Start with a friendly greeting. One that says "welcome, glad you're here" not one that says "I really don't care if you're here because there's another customer behind you".
