The Top of the Mark Hopkins Hotel has a bar and dance floor that is known world wide. Built in the 1920's, it has old San Francisco charm & glamour. There are windows encircling the entire floor & spectacular night views wherever you look. Try one of their martinis...there are so many to choose from & they are delicious. They have a live band that does cover songs & classics. The band was more than capable of delivering a fine show. The music was a little loud but not muddy sounding at all. The dance floor remained quite busy while we were there. This is typically the 30+ to 70ish crowd that goes there. Quite diverse & loads of fun. The waiters are friendly, knowledgeable & ours was constantly checking on us to make sure we were well taken care of. Cost: $10 cover charge & martinis average $14 each.

Based on the reviews here, I wasn't expecting much for service, but everyone said we must go here for at least one drink, so we did. I was blown away with how great our service was. However, we were there on a Sunday evening, so it wasn't busy or anything, but still. I was plesantly surprised at how nice our server was. We planned to go there for after dinner drinks and dessert, and when we asked our server for a dessert menu, he said the kitchen had already closed - we were just 10 minutes too late. No biggie. We ordered some martinis and enjoyed our view (awesome view - but I wished we would have gone before dinner as there isn't as much to see after the sun goes down). After we had received our drinks, our waiter brought over two chocolate dipped strawberries and said he tried to grab something sweet from the kitchen for us. How thoughtful! My boyfriend ended up popping the question there, and we ordered two glasses of champagne, but one of the wait staff (not our waiter) said it was past last call. My boyfriend asked for our server to be sent over, and he was able to get us two glasses before the bar actually closed. Very impressed with the service and the martinis were delicious too. So many to choose from!

This is a place you would check on their timetable/ time schedule before you go because they have some funny time arrangement, some are set for light eating, some are set for drinks and some hours they are simply not open during the day. So check before you go.
Once you get in, the views are great!! It is very good atmosphere. If the weather is good, you can have super view of San Francisco.
The staff are generally friendly but sometimes they can be very stressful.

I know that this establishment is also reviewed under the restaurant category, however in reality it is not a restaurant as it only serves lite bites etc. its forte is as a cocktail bar with superb 360 degree views over the city. The cocktails are approx $14 a go, not cheap for the US, but well worth it for the view. Try to get a window table, though if you can't it does not matter too much as there is a raised central area with tables and chairs.

The view here is fabulous. We got lucky and got a table by the window for both Saturday breakfast buffet and for drinks in the evening. Starting with breakfast: it's good, but not outstanding and we didn't think the spread was worth the $27 price tag per person. The service in the morning was excellent. We never waited for coffee and our empty plates were removed quickly. The staff was very friendly and accommodating - they cleaned a table so we could have a window seat. The evening is a different story. The Martini menu is quite creative, but expensive. The service was barely adequate. We got our drinks - one - then we were pretty much left alone until last call. Again we got a window seat and the view was amazing. So go there for the view and expect to pay a lot. Service is hit and miss.
