Owner description: Home to the San Francisco Symphony, this modern structure created quite an architectural controversy when first built.

If available, they give a new perspective to the concerts. Once when I sat there, Yoyo Ma sat down in the box next to me after he performed a concerto. The views from the balconies outside the lobby are great at night.

It's recommended to take public transport to Symphony Hall as the parking options are limited and expensive in the environs. It's very close to Civic center and city hall, so you can get a nice view of all the lights in the neighborhood. The San Francisco Symphony is an excellent metropolitan symphony, and definitely you shoudl get tickets if you like classical music.

Whether you are a local or out of town visitor, visit the symphony for a special experience! For the young or young at heart, there are "Davies After Hours" events which is part performance, part reception!

These special evenings offer concertgoers a chance to enjoy musical groups of other genres capturing on that evening's program, in the nightclub-like atmosphere of a transformed top floor of Davies Symphony Hall.

With its open air balconies, stunning views overlooking City Hall, and specialty drinks at a cash-only bar, Davies After Hours is a unique after-party designed to draw parallels between classical music and the many other popular styles that thrive in the Bay Area.

Davies After Hours is FREE for all ticketholders to the following concerts in 2012:
March 16 American Mavericks: MTT, Emanuel Ax, and John Adams
April 27 Susanna Mälkki conducts Prokofiev and Sibelius
June 22 MTT conducts Bartók’s Bluebeard's Castle

“From the symphony that’s won eleven Grammys®, frequently gives back to the community, and is notorious for luring new audiences to fall in love with classical music comes a new event: Davies After Hours. It’s a three-part series that’s a little bit of concert, a little bit of reception and 100% inspiring, educational, and fun.” —Saturday Night Magazine

I only come to see they symphony. I came to see an opera once and didn't get out until 11pm (too late). This is a wonderful, attractive environment. The conductor Michael Tilson Thomas, otherwise known as MTT has a passion for modern composers, and I don't. I always look at the scheduled and try to go when they are playing older classical music, especially baroque.
