We opted to walk around, rather than go inside. Rodan's The Thinker is outside and free to view. The views of the bay are also wonderful to take in.
There is ample parking on the streets, but you'll need to hunt for a spot if it's busy.

Thank Jeff G

We across the Legion of Honor by just googling around things to do in San Francisco. So we decided to check it out and man was it a good choice. The grounds are spectacular, the building is actually a replica of the original Legion of Honor building (Palais de la Legion d'Honneur) in Paris. The courtyard is awesome in it itself with the picturesque columns, "The Thinker," and the detailed archway entrance.

I was actually satisfied with seeing just that, but I was with my girlfriend, and of course she wanted to spend money and go in to the museum portion haha. I'm glad she pushed for that because they had some pretty exhibits to be such a small museum.

The best part of the museum is it's relationship to the de Young Museum. If you purchase a ticket to the Legion of Honor, your entrance ticket is good for the de Young Museum as well. So its free! The catch is, the de Young is not necessarily close to the Legion of Honor.

Aside from that, I was pleasantly surprised with the Legion of Honor. It's a great place to visit while in SF and you'll be around more locals than tourists! I definitely recommend.

A friend informed me of this temporary exhibit of Anders Zorn, well worth the effort to come see this, discount given for those coming on SF Muni showing proof of payment. I was most impressed Anders Zorn mastered painting the reflections of water, close-up inspection it was obvious that it was watercolor, but step back and he captures the essence of the water reflections which amazed me. Allow at least half a day for this.

When I was there, the bust of Medusa was on exhibition along with other European treasures. If you enjoy other museums in S.F. such as the DeYoung, MOMA, etc. you will love the Legion of Honor. The busts and statues are magnificent.
