The San Francisco museums of art are treasures. When you buy a ticket to the Legion, you're admitted free to the De Young (in Golden Gate Park) on the same day. They're both beautiful museums. It's worth checking out the special exhibits beforehand. Some are better than others, but there's always the permanent collection and the architecture itself to make a visit worthwhile.

Having gone to the S.F. museums all my life, I took up my Aunts membership when she passed away. The special event was "Treasures from the Louvre" from King Louis IV-Marie Antoinette. Wine is served between the three rooms dedicated to Rodin along with delightful tables with a wonderful assortment of hot and cold appetizers. Coffee and dessert tortes and strawberries accompany the ambiance. The exhibit is spectacular and noteworthy, having made it through the French Revolution. A must see!

Which is what we thought. Got passes as part of our City Pass so went there expecting to see military stuff. It's an art museum, which was okay with me but not my husband. Should have read up on it first, but was happily surprised to find Rodin's The Thinker in the outdoor courtyard

The Legion of Honor is a great place to take the family or to take your special someone on a date. The gardens in front of the museum are beautiful, and with picnic benches nearby, it's an ideal spot to pack a picnic and enjoy breathtaking views of the Golden Gate before viewing beautiful art. What's especially nice about the museum is its variety. There is art in so many forms: paintings, scupltures, mixed-media, etc. Even better is how many art movements are presented. The permanent collection contains works from some of art's biggest names: Picasso, El Greco, etc. The museum also usually has very interesting temporary exhibits as well. For those who want the Louvre experience without traveling thousands of miles, look no further than here!
