“This museum has it all”
Reviewed September 30, 2011

This museum has the largest collection of Rodin sculptures in the world. It is just the right size for a museum because you can see it all and not get exhausted. It's location is sublime - you can see the ocean. The special exhibit of Dutch and Flemish art was wonderful as was the audio tour. It also has decorative arts mixed with paintings from the period. The San Fran muni system drops you off at the door and when you leave you can walk the costal trail to the Cliff House or Louie's Restaurant about a mile away.

“Love the Museum”
Reviewed September 23, 2011

SF's Legion of Honor and De Young are two of my favorite museums. If you have just a day, a one day pass will get you into both museums. Love the farthest room to the right in the permanent collection (Monet. Picasso, Cezanne). However, if you will potentially be revisiting the museums within a year, purchase a single membership ($90) and every time you attend you and a guest are free! This membership pays for itself. Children are free and the first Tuesday of each month are free - but 'free-days' can be very crowded. The Legion's cafe is wonderful ... the De Young's not so great. The Legion's location is breathtaking ... after the museum head down to China beach for a spectacular view of the Golden Gate.

“This is a jewel of a museum that should not be missed.”
Reviewed September 15, 2011

Check ahead of time to see what temporary exhibitions may be on but the permanent galleries are enough of a reason to go. If you want paintings as well as 3 centuries of European decorative arts (furniture and porcelain) this is a fantastic "survey" collection.

“Gem of a Museum in SF”
Reviewed September 12, 2011

The Palace of the Legion of Honor is high up on a hill on western Clement Street. The museum is filled with art from many eras, but is particularly rich in impressionism. There is also Rodin's "The Thinker" out in the entry quad. Great views of the area, including Land's End, from the lawn. There is also a golf course there. It's a short walk to the Cliff House and the ruins of the Sutro Baths.
