“Great views”
Reviewed January 7, 2013

Sunday breakfast/ lunch was excellent. It gets crowded so allow some time. Food was good and portions large. The view of the surf on the ocean excellent. Parking in front was easy.

“Try their Ultimate Grilled Cheese!”
Reviewed January 4, 2013

We went here yesterday afternoon for lunch. There was a short wait so we had a drink at the bar. I had a Bloody Mary and my dad had a Manhattan and the bill was almost $20. That's a little high for only two drinks, but they were good. We weren't seated by a window, but that was ok because they have large picture windows and we still had a beautiful view of the ocean. Luckily the weather was clear so we could see quite a distance in both directions. I had the Ultimate Grilled Cheese which was very good. It had braised beef, pickled sliced onions and lots of gooey cheese. It was almost like french onion soup in a sandwich. It was served with a forgettable salad, so I would swap that out for french fries or other side next time. My dad had the fish and chips. It came with two large filets, fries, and coleslaw. He really seemed to enjoy it. The service here was adequate, but not overly friendly. Would definitely come back again. They also have a small museum on the lower level which was kind of interesting, and a gift shop. Keep in mind that the restaurant is a little pricey, but worth it for the view!

“12.30.12. Sunday Brunch”
Reviewed December 30, 2012

We have visited the beach chalet twice now for special occasions with the family. The first time we went we had a great time.

The second time. When booking the reservation I asked for all the details about the brunch. Never, was I told there was a time limit on the table. Until 20 minutes before they were kicking us out of the restaurant. If beach chalet has suddenly decided to put a time limit on the amount of time paying customers are allowed to sit at a table they need to tell us in advance or at least when reservations are being made or when we are being seated, NOT 20 minutes before they plan to ask us to leave. Not only that, they need to be consistent, don't tell one table they need to leave while other tables that have been there just as long are enjoying themselves with out interruption. Really I hold the manager most to blame. It was the fault of the restaurant for not being clear. Not only do they not have it written anywhere but we were told we could stay until 3pm when the buffet finishes. We have never experienced such a bad customer service anywhere. When we brought this up to the manager, he said he was sorry, but that we would have to leave in 30 minutes and then he lied (saying that it was because they were going to be so busy) which we saw for ourselves as a blatant lie. In addition, no other tables were asked to leave (tables that arrived within 15 minutes of us). Was it because we were not speaking English amongst ourselves and their other customers were? Or was it because we had a child with us? I don't know. All I know is that ((2visits) and over $1000 later) we will never be back to beach chalet, and we will suggest to all of our friends and family that they also not visit the chalet. Good job manager, we are locals.

“Great location & beer but only average food and poor service”
Reviewed December 21, 2012

Walking into the Beach Chalet at 11:50 on a Saturday without a reservation we saw a number of empty tables however were surprised to be told that we would have to wait some 20mins for one to be ready. Did this mean the restaurant was so popular they were all reserved? We soon discovered this was not the case and the restaurant just didn’t have enough staff to handle all the tables!

The two best things about the Beach Chalet are the location, with views out to sea and the high standard of the locally made beer. Our food was average to say the least and whilst the waitress was friendly (when we were attended to) I wouldn’t particularly recommend coming here for food.

“Good lunch”
Reviewed November 20, 2012

We had vowed we would NEVER go again after our booking for lunch on a Sunday in November was not honored! They said they had no record of it. Anyway, we decided to go back for lunch and it was very nice - spicy chicken wings and beer battered fish and chips. The service was excellent and as always, it was great to watch the rolling waves of Ocean Beach and the kamikaze kite surfers. The ladies restroom was cleaner than on the last occasion but could do with more regular attention.
