Description: Fresh house-made pasta, wood-fired pizza, house-cured meats. It’s all about simple and authentic Italian food rooted in the south, executed with skill, expertise and old world standards of care. The defining goal of the restaurant for its ambiance and style of service is to make everyone feel welcome. "We feel very strongly about creating a ‘come as you are’ atmosphere in the restaurant."

First I must say Flour & Water is on my top 5 restaurants in San Francisco. So with that said we went on a Friday night in late August and we just ask the server what they like so we usually go with their recommendations unless they have pre fix menu with wine pairing. I’ve done the pre fix wine pairing several times and it always a huge treat for me! Unfortunately I see people go in and get a pizza and I just think “Wow are you missing out” You can pizza everywhere and Tomy’s And Star are the most popular. But it’s a crime to go to such a great restaurant and get pizza!! You have to be flexible with reservations and times for dinner because it ranges from either 6:00-10:00 or 10:30. What I have found best is to just go there around 6:30 and just put your name on the waiting list and they will tell about how long you wait and they phone# so you go downt the street to Central Kitchen or around the corner to House of Thai. And see which one you get in first! There all good but not as good as Flour + Water🍷Cheers

Thoughtful creative use of ingredients to produce unique interpretations of Italian dishes. The atmosphere is casual, but the staff are extremely well-informed and professional and clearly passionate about food and wine. We had the pasta tasting on a Friday night--we hadn’t made a reservation but left our name on the list a few minutes after opening time (5:30) and they called about an hour later with a table for two. The food is memorable. I’d single out the two pasta pairing of duck raviolini with coal roasted fig & fried tarragon gremolata with the kale cavatelli with lamb sugo, chanterelles & sierra fig mostarda. While the title might suggest a few too many flavors (duck and lamb?), it really worked with the fig unifying the dishes. Other courses were equally complex and satisyfing

We had the pasta tasting menu and it was really good, I don’t want my review of 4* to imply that it wasn’t really tasty food because it was. It’s just that we had to sit on stools and a shared table which dampened the experience a little and we felt that the food portions wasn’t enough for a group of three. Also it for very noisy towards the end of the night.

Staff very friendly, attentive and helpful! Can’t fault them. Great experience.

I had the pleasure of being invited to the private dining room upstairs, which is accessed via a staircase beside the main restaurant. The food and wine were excellent - prepared with passion and care. The service was impeccable - gracious, knowledgeable and unobtrusive. The main restaurant downstairs was packed at 6:30pm and no surprise - the atmosphere in there looked to be bustling and great fun. I hope to return here next time I am in SF.

I loved the dishes we were served and the service was very helpful and friendly. The only thing that bothered me a bit was the noise level. It was full of happy people, so maybe they might turn down the not-so-very-much-in-the-background background music? A little attention to acoustics in such a place would be nice too.
But we enjoyed every bite of what we ordered! Highly recommended
