“Good food, but bad experience.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 17, 2012

Careful. Inside is nice, but about half of their seating is on a back patio which is a bad experience. ...And they're very unwilling to work with you. ...As in, I dont mind waiting for a table. Parking is also a nightmare. Find a place with better odds.

“what a great neighborhood find”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 4, 2011

The atmosphere at Contigo is very welcoming and relaxing. Once you go, it is a restaurant that you promise yourself to keep in mind for future visits. Our group of four shared two bottles of wine and many interesting small plates one night. This restaurant is a perfect space for long conversations and catching up with family or friends.
At no time did we feel rushed.
Our server was very helpful choosing a nice wine for us and giving us suggestions for how many of each of the tapas plates we should order for the table. The care he took commenting on the portion and the richness of each of the dishes we asked him about was impressive. We were able to get a real feel for the talented kitchen at Contigo.
Some of the tapas we enjoyed were the anchovies with homemade mato cheese, tasty croquetas which were shaped like eggs, and hearty abondigas with lamb. Those plates in the "over the top" category were the aged Iberian ham and of course, the often mentioned and deserving Bocadillos.
Next time, I will have to start with a cava before beginning further explorations of the menu at Contigo.

“Intimate, innovative, and delicious!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 15, 2011

Contigo was recommended by a "foodie" friend of a friend, and did not disappoint. We were a group of five who chose to try the 7-plate chef's choice menu. At $40 per person, it was a terrific value and a fun way to sample items we might not have ordered on our own. The gem salad, the halibut, and a dish with octopus, artichokes and a lovely grain were standouts for us. Service is extremely relaxed and casual (our server sat down to eat his own dinner at the end of our evening), but also very attentive. There is a familial feeling to the place. I don't usually like small restaurants with tables close together, but at Contigo it seems to work. One catch - it is an expensive cab ride to this part of town from the Nob Hill area. BART is probably a better option.

“Interesting and pricey menu, leave your Amex at home”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 11, 2011

I met a friend at Contigo while in SF on business. I was pleasantly surprised to find street parking easily, and we were promptly seated once both of us arrived. It was coincidentally my second Tapas restaurant in 2 days, so as a point of comparison I found the menu had a smaller choice of items and was somewhat pricier than I expected.. There were some interesting items (tripe, meatballs, salmon) but it was difficult to find 4 that we could both agree to share. Our waiter was very helpful in helping us select a Spanish wine which was delicious.
