“Different from typical Jewish Museum”
Reviewed January 1, 2014

but well worth an hour on its two floors. Its well located and a building with character.
Its edgy and shows far more than the traditional face of Jewish History and Culture

“Underwhelmed”
Reviewed November 29, 2013

Not that I expected a whole lot, based on advice from locals, but I did expect more.

This is a repurposed building- quite interestingly redone. They get full marks there.

The four exhibits ranged from a Utopian exhibit- with a couple of interesting absurdist films and a lot of allusions to Kibbutz history, to a look at cartoons/illustration/poetry by Arnold Lobel (Frog and Toad).

The kibbutz history could have had an illustrated map showing locations and detailed info. on some of the Kibbutzim, but no.

The curating was plain dull, the exhibits generally uninspiring. The StoryCorps is a positive exception, and the Black Sabbath (Jewish-Black musical relations), was again a plus.

But I did not feel ennobled or inspired or want to linger.

Way too bad!

“So disappointing”
Reviewed November 18, 2013

I check out their website. I drive from Palo Alto to San Fran for this museum and find out when I arrive that the fee is only $5 because they are in between exhibits. But, not all is lost, as there is one exhibit (actually 2, but the second one was a small room that looked like elementary school dioramas showing some nexus between the secret musical history of Black-Jewish relations), but the main exhibit was about Kibbutz life...This was OK and the art that supported it of mild interest. But what seriously detracted from this one exhibit was the docent who obviously had been instructed to have an interactive docent experience. As such, we, the small group of visitors in her tow were subjected to childlike questioning and a rather simplistic rendition of kibbutz life...with clearly some of the visitors knowing more than she did. A nice person, no doubt, but this style was truly uninspiring. It would have been nice to actually learn something. A big disappointment. The museum store was pretty good, so can drop in there without even going into the museum. If you go, just make sure there is something that will exceed a blink of the eye experience.

“Very interesting...”
Reviewed November 1, 2013

I went there in June to see a photography exhibition and I thought it was fantastic. The music in the background, the link between photos and videos, books in the middle of the big halls... It was very good, and really made to be interesting. I really recommend to go. Also, the whole area around is quite nice to see! So go and have a wander!

“A bit boring, but I didn't give it a chance really”
Reviewed October 29, 2013

I first went online and thought that their current exhibits were a bit boring. So we stuck with just the gift store and snack venue. They had some interesting items, including some places with Marc Chagall on them and many fine candlesticks. It was worth going in just for that. They have a mini lunch area, with some tasty food and beverages and that tied us over till dinner.
