We had planned on taking bus tours but could not pick a company. Reviews for double decker tours are amazingly mixed. We chose Deluxe because they seemed nice and friendly. Picked up at Union Square and got a 48 hour pass. Reasonably priced. We took all four loops and used the hop on hop off feature. Our buses all stopped at every stop, the guides and drivers where all nice and helpful. Yes the buses are old London buses but that just adds to the experience. The drivers talk on their way through the route so the dialog is always specific to where you are. Each driver has his own canned dialog but that just adds flavor to the trip. If you want comfort and luxury hire a taxi or limo. To have a unique experience and some fun then take the bus. The trip is what you make of it. To have a well rounded out trip it will take a combination of bus, taxi, transit, walk or cable car. I suggest you try them all. The pick up points are not marked so pay attention and carry the bus map with you. This applies to all the bus companies. Times vary as well as to how often the buses come but I think that has more to do with traffic than anything else. The only complaint is that the last run is at 5:00pm, so if you stay out late you will have to find other means of transport to get back to where you are staying.

I wish I had realised before I parted with my money that there were many lookalikes, and these guys were the poor cousins. They seem to use old British buses that have been crudely modified to convert them to open top, with flaking resin plugs, and sharp-edged, poorly chosen pop-rivets, indicative of amateur workmanship.

In the San Francisco traffic, the old British diesel engine pours exhaust alongside the right hand side of the bus, and when you are idling along it comes up to join you.

The driver/guide (Leon) was personable and deserving of his tip, BUT since we wanted to leave his bus to walk the bridge, he led us to believe another would b along every 25 minutes, and specifically, one would pick us up at 5:15pm. It turned up at 5:35 and then sat around for another twenty minutes while the new driver of an even worse bus with at least one broken seat sat around and had a smoke.

To top things off, the traffic grid-locked (not the company's fault) and they had to abandon us half way down O'Farrell St. a full 70 minutes later than we had planned.

Go for the other hop-on hop-off company, About eight of their buses came while we waited at Golden Gate for ours. And even at the "discounted price" it is expensive.

We got on to this hop on hop off tour from Pier 39. We didn't realize there were many hop on hop off tour operators..So we boarded the first one we saw..We took Blue line pass as it was cloudy and we thought going to GG bridge wasn't that good an idea..We paid $22 per person. But we were disappointed from the beginning with the tour guide! We've taken quite a few sightseeing tours, few in SF itself but this is one of the worst. Tour guide hardly gave any good information and it was very dull and boring. I would suggest you to take the other hop on hop off tours instead of this, ofcourse after reviewing the same in Tripadvisor!

Everyone wanted to charge us more for a 24 hour tour, but since we only had a half a day, they charged us only $22 a person. We went everywhere and even got to go over the Golden Gate Bridge

The open air bus tours are very good- but my advice is to review them somewhat before you decide which line- many of the buses lines are painted almost the exact same color! In addition, these line take certain rotes only certain times of the day, and accordingly you may end up waiting for a few hours for youe bus line or pay additional taxi fees.
