Owner description: From its vantage point overlooking the spectacular Golden Gate, Fort Point protected San Francisco harbor from Confederate and foreign attack during and after the U.S. Civil War. Its beautifully arched casemates display the art of the master brick mason from the Civil War period.

“AMAZING Golden Gate Bridge pictures + History”
Reviewed September 23, 2013

This spot NEVER gets old. The Fort is amazing FREE entrance, and self guided tours. We took a picnic lunch and sat by the bay and watched the America Cup race, breathtaking!!

“A good stop, especially for the old film on the making of the GG bridge”
Reviewed September 7, 2013

No cost to visit, this fort presents an interesting view of the Civil War era far from Civil War action. A real highlight is the old film on the building of the Golden Gate Bridge, filmed by Bethlehem Steel.

“Good views of the underside of GG Bridge”
Reviewed September 6, 2013

We stopped here on our bike ride across the bridge. It was very foggy and I thought if we waited some the fog would lift, but it did not. The fort is pretty barebones but was still interesting. We went all the way to the top, beware - it is windy and cold up there. We spent about 30 minutes there and if you're a history buff you might need more time, but if not this was ample. We walked around on our own, there didn't seem to be any guided tours. We did see some park rangers when we first arrived but did not see them anymore as we walked around the grounds. It would have been nice if they had been around to answer questions or give us more in depth information.

“Well worth the visit”
Reviewed September 4, 2013

This location has fantastic park staff and is very well preserved for a fort of its age. It also offers views of the Golden Gate Bridge that you can't access anywhere else. Parking is adequate as well, so don't be afraid to drive there.

“Incomparable view”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

Fort Point is a hidden gem for tourists and natives alike. It's not easy to find the narrow road which leads to this national historic site, but once you get there- wow! Especially on a warm, sunny day, which doesn't happen that often in San Francisco, you will be awed by the view of the Golden Gate Bridge from below on one side, and the picturesque city skyline from the other side. The historical aspect is also fantastic if you like history. If you are there on a sunny day, you will understand why San Francisco is one of the most beautiful cities in the world!
