The three part program of ballets: Chroma, Beaux and Number Nine is an interesting blend of modern styles of ballet and not quite ballet. Chroma, a return from 2010, uses a style which I would say fuses ballet and hip hop moves to a surprisingly melodious score considering that one of the composers is from a band called White Stripe My seat mates and I were very taken by the physicallity of the moves and by the intensity of the work even though it is plotless in the normal sense. The second piece Beaux has 9 male dancers dancing sweetly, gracefully, playfully but not any of the stereotypically bravura male dancing. We were puzzled and didn't feel quite complete with this piece until the final piece, Number Nine, appeared which is a much more neo-classically structured plotless ballet with all the bravura male dancing you could ask for as well as the technically wonderful female dancing as well. The contrast with Beaux helped to round out the show in a satisfying way. This set of ballets is done now, but other up coming shows should be equally interesting. If you have not been in the Opera House on Van Ness, this too is a treat. You can see many good companies in the world of dance, but you will not see any better companies, in my opinion. (Most shows not suitable for small children with short attention spans unless they are
already ballet enthusiasts.)

Third version of The Nutcracker I've seen, and by far the best. Makes me want to see more ballets at the San Francisco Ballet.

Have seen Seattle's PNB do the Nutcracker. The San Francisco Ballet's rendition is over the top in every way--I finally truly understood the story!!! Dancers, orchestra, all a 10. Sat in the nosebleed section but could see and hear wonderfully. So glad to have done this. And the history of ballet, this city and the Nutcracker--find out!

I have only attended 7 or 8 productions. They have all left me wanting more.

The latest production of Swan Lake was spellbinding from beginning to end. Vanessa Zahorian danced the white & black swans with so much passion, beauty, & grace...I wanted to get up & dance with her. As if I could..:)

The pas de deux, the dance of the little swans, the fouette solo, the orchestra's arrangement of Tchaikovsky's score were all wonderful. I want to experience it all again!!!

Over the years I have attended The Nutcracker a couple of times. Due to the holiday season, the number of children in the audience & production, the experience is unique. The staging was an opulent feast for the eyes. With bursts of color, smoke, dozens of costumes, & dozens of dancers!

The SF Ballet is inspiring!
