We love the food at Slanted Door. They have a wonderful menu and it is hard to choose a few dishes when you would like to taste them all. This trip we chose Manilla Clams, and Imperial Rolls to share. We then had Shaking Beef and Cellophane Noodles with Dungeness Crab to share. Dessert was the Olive Oil Cake. It was all excellent, but we both noticed the small amount of crab in the noodles and that it did seem more Blue Crab than Dungeness. Every 2-5 years we get to San Francisco. On this trip we were looking forward to dining at Slanted Door again. We lucked into a 5:30 reservation after several attempts and rearranged our plans to accomodate the restaurant's schedule. We rushed to the restaurant to get in line for our 5:30 seating, the first of the night. Staff walked past the growing line with noticeable effort to avoid questions or conversation. There was no greeting, explanation or apology for the fact that we waited until 5:50 for a hostess to appear and BEGIN seating. That did effect my whole attitude during the meal. Everything seemed far more regimented and rushed than I noticed before. BUT the weather was the most fabulous we have ever experienced in SF, the view is always awesome from Slanted Door, and the food was excellent.

Had a quick lunch solo at the bar (walk in). Made to feel welcome, quick and efficient service. Food was tasty and the beer recommendation matched the food very well. Obviously a popular place as it was quite busy. Would definatly head back when in area.

Walking through the Ferry Building looking for somewhere to eat lunch, we came across the Slanted Door, a 'Vietnamese California' . It was very crowded with the friday lunch crowd. This was a great find. A few years ago I had heard about this restaurant, but had never gone there. The food is served family style and we ordered lite since we are trying to be reasonable and had dinner reservations. As we waited for our food we watched a large number of wonderful smelling food being delivered to tables near us. We had some wonder crispy imperial rolls for our appitizer and to stave off hunger. So delicious, I could have eaten a dozen of them. Then came the cellophane noodles with green onion, dungeness crab and sesame, so experetly seasoned. We also had Spicy monterey squid with pineapple, sweet red pepper, jalapeño and thai basil. So fresh and well prepared. I will add this to my list of places I will eat whenever I have a chance.

We visited in August and had a very enjoyable dinner - however the hostess was disengaged and the waiter not as attentive as he should have been...it's still packed to the rafters! The portions are very generous - you can ask for half portions.
