“A great little place for cocktails and food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 7, 2013 via mobile

A busy place with a buzzing atmosphere. On arrival they serve tortilla chips with salsa, guac and a spicy cheese dip they were delicious. A great menu with interesting choices lots of fish options and more than your average selection at a Mexican. Great service worth a visit!

“Great Food at a Busy Place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 3, 2013

Delicious food. The appetizers were wonderful, and the chile verde was great. I had the smoothest tequila cocktail ever. Very busy and popular place; I came without reservations and sat at the bar, but that was fine. Located by several popular hotels. Great place for lunch or dinner.

“YUM!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 21, 2013

This spot was very close to our hotel. The food was served hot and was delicious. The service was super. The only downside was that is noisy, but that's just because it's busy and people are having a great time.

“Afterwork Hipster Spot”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 19, 2013

Simple, satisfying...fresh...and yummy! Met here with a friend last week and was surprised how crowded it was for a Monday night. I recommend reservations. We started with cocktails and as with most Mexican restaurants it was heavy on the tequila drinks which don't work for me so I had one of the sparkling wine cocktails. We didn't want to eat a full entree since they looked pretty big so we decided on three appetizers. 1. street tacos...seriously delish!. 2. Plantain..rich and satisfying. 3. ceviche - which I don't eat but it looked good.
The service was very good and they serve chips and salsa right away - three types of salsa too.
It's located close to Powell Street BART and near the Jewish Museum with a big courtyard in front so easy to locate and convenient. It's a hipster crowd so obviously a place for people to stop by after work.

“An interesting option”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 18, 2013

Based on the reviews, we were looking forward to trying this place. The food was decent, kind of an Americanized Mexican style. But as Mexican food can vary dramatically depending on the area the recipes are from, maybe this is just a style I'm not as familiar with.

The portions were decent and the food was flavorful. I enjoyed the different salsas we got with the chips although they were all quite mild. I think our server may also have been holding down hosting duties, either way, we only saw her twice throughout the meal. They had some interesting margaritas, but despite the exotic sounding ingredients, they were just ok.

The location was really good as it's on the backside of the Marriott Marquis. It doesn't get a whole lot of foot traffic in the evening and the doors into the hotel are locked at night, so just be aware.

Service was definitely poor. We had a really long wait after being seated for our order to be taken, and our drinks didn't arrive until after our dinner did. We finished our dinner and drinks and then sat for at least thirty minutes with our empty dishes in front of us waiting for someone to come back by. We'd been dry long enough that even our solid conversation finally waned and we had to seek out the waitress. Definitely lost sales as we probably could've been upsold on more drink or dessert, but by the time we got the check we were all frustrated and just ready to go.
