Owner description: The de Young, designed by Herzog & de Meuron and located in Golden Gate Park, is the nation’s fifth most visited art museum. It showcases American art from the seventeenth through the twenty-first centuries, international textile arts and costumes, and art from the Americas, the Pacific, and Africa.

Stopped here after visiting the Legion of Honor since the admission to both places was included. Not as much here to see as the LoH but the architecture and works were amazing. (Missed the Georgia O'Keefe exhibit by a couple of weeks, darn.) Had a nice exhibit on the early development of the Bay Bridge in drawings and photos. Don't forget to go to the 9th floor observation deck where you have panaramic views of the City.

We had been there years ago and It has gotten better with age. If you are staying downtown just take the #5 bus from Powell St. station to Stop #9 the driver will let you know. Lots of interesting other attractions near by. Biological Gardens, Tea House and Gardens. The De Young is a real highlight. It has a viewing tower and from the outside looks tall and skinny but inside it really spreads out. Great exhibits, museum store and cafe. You can spend a lot of time here

The de Young museum was first founded in 1895 in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park and re-opened in 2005. Its beautiful facility combines art, architecture and natural landscape. I love the way it displays its wonderful collections of American art (outstanding portraits) from the 17th - 20th centuries and its African art. We were blown away by an amazing wall sculpture made by Ghanian artist El Anatsui of metal whiskey bottle necks. A great museum experience!

A fine collection, well displayed. Be sure to visit the top floor (elevator available) for great views of Golden Gate Park and much of the city. Admission also gets you in at the Legion of Honor, also worth the time.

Loved the Hockney exhibit at the de Young Museum. David Hockney himself did the lighting design and chose the color for the exhibit, broavo
