“a world class museum”
Reviewed September 25, 2013

This is a great museum in a city filled with great museums. And it sits in a beautiful park that is worth the trip in itself.
If you have a car go during the week because parking is readily available in the Park.

“Great collection of art”
Reviewed September 23, 2013

We only had time to see their normal collection, not the special exhibits but the display of artwork and other artifacts is very nice. They have a great collection of American art especially 19th and 20th centuries.

“One of my favorite places on earth”
Reviewed September 22, 2013

I love this museum. When I first saw the architecture I was appalled for some reason. Now I realize how well it blends in. They have EXCELLENT exhibits. There was a few years of bumpy roads for the museum after their amazing director died of cancer. They just hired a great director, finally after much infighting, and have some excellent exhibits on display. We just went to see Diebenkorn. Saturdays they have free DOING AND VIEWING art classes for families with children. We just attended one and it was excellent. The children looked at Diebenkorn art and then made paintings inspired by his work. EXCELLENT!!! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Diebenkorn
Friday nights have live music, docent tours, art projects and lectures. Expensive but delicious cafe. You can go to the Friday Nights at the DeYoung for free if you don't enter the gallery. Listen to the music, enjoy the lovely wire sculptures by Ruth Asawa as you wait for the elevator to take you up to the observation tower (a must). The gardens outside are nice too and it faces the California Academy of Sciences and is right next to the Japanese Tea Garden. We have seen so many fantastic exhibits since we have lived here and I love the architecture.

“Lots to see and do”
Reviewed September 19, 2013

We truly enjoyed all of the exhibits. There is a wide range of art that is sure to have something for everyone. I was particularly entranced by the glass and ceramic sculptures. We also enjoyed riding up to the viewing platform to enjoy the wonderful views of the city. Save your bus ticket - it gives you a $2 discount on admission!
