“Stylish and convenient”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 21, 2013

I stayed during a Friday and Saturday night in February. The lobby/bar had a nice modern flair. The location is convenient; it is approximately five blocks from the Market Street BART station. This is walkable if you have lite luggage. There are plenty of high-end stores and casual restaurants nearby, and the hotel is close to major bus routes. However, when I return to San Francisco I would like to stay at a more picturesque site closer to the bay.

Check-in and check-out were quick, easy, and painless. Staff were knowledgeable and friendly. Ordered room service which was served in less than 30 min. Fitness room pictures online do not do it justice. In addition to the free weights there are 2 recumbent bicycles and approx. 4 ellipticals and 6 treadmills. Even the elevators were quick. I was on the 29th floor and it took less than a 30 seconds to reach my floor. Cannot beat the location either; near the BART and a lot of great surrounding sights.

We are just finishing our last evening of an 8 day stay. We are here twice yearly for family visits and always stay at a Marriott. First time here and we have already booked our August stay and hopefully the same accommodations. It is very hard to explain the appeal since we are very keen on getting to know staff members in a hotel when we are here for more than a few days. It is the staff and service that excels much more than perhaps the furnishings of the rooms. In this regard we are in a lovely small suite with incredible views overlooking the bay in the background but it is NOT a newly re-furbished suite....no, it is extremely well kept and appointed but not in the'new' style of many Marriotts. However, when you leave in the morning to go out and return every doorand bell person remembers your name and addresses you! How they do this is a mystery to us but it is very nice. Upstairs there is a lounge (28th) floor which serves the usual but adequate munchies at 5:30 or so, and desserts at 7:30 but also during the day, there are always cookies, drinks fruits and nuts and pretzels. It is also with a great view. The gym is large and never seems to be crowded. Business center is good as is meeting facilities and we had dinner several times in the restaurant which is very reasonable for the central location of this property. We asked for a recommendation from the conceirge that was not very good...and later that night they sent up chocolates and fruit as an apology...certainly not requested nor expected, but very nice nonetheless. We recommend this hotel highly for its location and the fine services of the staff. You will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: Try floors 23-28 facing Macy's and Bay in the background if possible.

We got to use our Marriott points at this hotel, which was a nice surprise (you know how hard ican be to cash them in) for three nights in March. We found the staff friendly and helpful, and the room was adequate. We both think we recall that this was originally a Holiday Inn, which is why we weren't surprised at the tiny bathroom. The rooms have been renovated, but they're still small. One thing we appreciated was the unobstrusiveness of the staff. The maids were very polite and actually asked us when it would be convenient to clean. The bed was soft and very comfortable as well. Also, the room was quiet and we had a lovely view of Nob Hill.

Room Tip: Try for a room with a northern exposure.

This hotel is in a wonderful location, right by Union Square and great for getting around. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel itself was a fairly typical Marriott - love those beds! I was surprised that they charge for internet access per 24 hours! Overall I would definitely recommend this hotel for it's great location.

We enjoyed our 3 night stay at this very pleasant hotel. Found it to be clean, modern and very comfortable. Our room on the 20th floor offered a very nice view of the city and the bay. It was also nice to be able to view the cable cars go up and down Powell St. The employees were very helpful and service was efficient. With its excellent location, the Marriott Union Square is a very good choice for your San Francisco getaway.

As a platinum member it was quite disappointing to check in and have the front desk tell us that our room was in the un-remodeled section of the hotel but it was more convenient. Wrong on both accounts. The room was so old it had a popcorn ceiling still. Bed was fine. They've installed more energy saving shower heads so the water spits at you. The room was backyards in terms of the bathroom door. The bathroom door was at the front of the room and the door opened into the room vs the wall so you had to keep it closed or you'd hit it every time. Lounge was pretty good on terms if food choice and service. Location of course is great.
