“Get the watermelon iced tea!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 18, 2013

Get the watermelon iced tea! It's slightly pulpy with fresh watermelon and ?basil. Delicious.

I also loved my catfish eggs benedict and cheesy grits. Would love to go back the next time I'm in town!

“Satisfied My Soul”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 16, 2013

Out of four mornings in SF, two were spent here for breakfast. Early mornings during NYE weekend, surprisingly there was no wait. Crab beignet and BBQ Pork benedict special was too much for one person. The grits and 1/2 of the benedict were good cold the next day even if it did smell up the hotel room just from opening the mini-fridge door.

Second visit was a hard choice but I went with the Shrimp & Goat Cheese omelette and having not learned my lesson the first time, I also ordered the crawfish beignet. The omelette has a tomato and bacon sauce that is also on the shrimp and grits- so good I wanted more.

Both meals were excellent and I would return in a heartbeat!

By 9am, people were writing their names on the chalkboard to wait for a table. My walk down Polk was uneventful and I was given a hearty "good morning" by many along the way.

“Shrimp and grits for breakfast!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 10, 2013

Got there right as it opened on a Saturday morning, did not wait at all, and even an hour later, there were open tables. This is great comfort food, but not for those on diets! We tasted the special banana butterscotch pancakes, beignets, shrimp and grits and pork belly/poached egg/grits dishes. The grits are yellow corn and don't look like the traditional white ones, and most of the grits dishes include cheesy grits. Service was good, bloody mary's were spicy.

“Not a Fan”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 3, 2013

I know I am in the minority as the lines to get in for breakfast, brunch and lunch were out the door and down the street. Apparently, a regular occurrence since the host had to part the sea of customers who were blocking the sidewalk and nicely explained that their neighbors get upset when they can't get by.

We arrived at 10AM on a Sunday and waited 1 hour for breakfast/brunch. Was definitely a fun experience. Loved the "sign yourself in on the giant blackboard" and watch as each name gets crossed off the list. Very cool interior. Glant lobster painted on one wall and a ka-zillion mirrors adorn the opposite wall.

Lots of breakfast/brunch choices and for those who like cajun breakfasts would probably enjoy. If you like shrimp & grits or pulled pork (not me) with your eggs benedict, you would probably like it. I had an egg white omelet with mushrooms, scallions and peppers. Turned out to be fried egg whites with veggies laid in the middle of the egg whites. It was OK. Toast selections were limited... white or brown. I chose white and toast was dry and cold. Service was fine. Nothing special but no problems.

Would give the atmosphere an A, the host who moved everyone in an out as if he was conducting an orchestra an A+, the food a C-, and the wait time/convenience a D-.
