This Motor Inn is very basic - nothing fancy, the room decor is a bit dated but it was clean, friendly, reasonably priced and in a great location. There is no lobby, no dining, no pool, just the parking, check-in room, and 3 floors of rooms but we didn't come to San Francisco to stay in our hotel - just needed a clean, economical, comfortable place to sleep and come and go from for our family of 4 trip and for that Columbus Motor Inn fit our needs
Free parking in this touristy pricey area and walking point location are two of the main reasons to stay here
Nice staff. One guy (didn't catch his name) always seemed to be there! But he was very nice and helpful
Walking distance to many key tourist sites and transportation services (double decker buses, cable car, bus stop #30 right outside door) easy walk to Fisherman's wharf, Pier 33, Ghirardelli square. Convenient Walgreens at the end of the block, We walked to two breakfast places - Pat's Cafe and Hollywood Cafe- both good places
Not really a con as the main reason I picked the hotel was the free parking (other hotels in the area charge around $50!)just a word of advice the parking takes some serious maneuvering skills as the spots are tiny(they make use of every square inch of the garage) Be prepared but again it's such a great reason to stay here if you have a car. (Our trip included Sonoma area days ) We parked the car the day we checked in and didn't move it until we checked out
I request and received a 3rd floor room with a view
We stayed in room 301, had a terrific view (we could see Coit Tower, church, water) a large room good for family of 4. no balcony (but nice big windows you can open for air) and was right across from the elevator, corner room.
Very basic, the decor is a bit dated but it was clean, cable box is laying against the wall on top of the flat screen TV which was a bit odd. wi-fi was a bit slow.
I requested a refrigerator (only $5 a day) very helpful when traveling with kids
The shower/toilet room was probably the most dated part of room and smelled a bit our first night so I bought an air fresher the 1st night at walgreens
There is a safe in the closet which is nice to have
There is a restaurant/bar across the street that was a bit noisy one night but being on the 3rd floor it didn't keep me up at all - the view definitely made up for any typical big city street noise you might expect.
Other reviews mentioned Bimbo's which you can see from my picture is on the side of the hotel we stayed in, (bathroom window looks out to the building and more great views) we were there mid week so heard no noisy so not sure if that would be a problem on weekend nights
when we checked in we were told they were going to steam clean our room carpets during our stay and we worried that we would come back to a musty smelling room but we didn't and it was nice to know we were walking on a freshly cleaned carpet (although I wish it had been done before we were in the room but oh well) they did a good job. Had a chance to speak to the cleaning lady who mentioned she was a bit behind cleaning our room, but only because she was making sure the carpet cleaners did a good job!
I do like staying at hotels with nice amenities but when traveling with a family on a budget and you want to spend your money wisely in an expensive city and make the most of your time enjoying the sites nearby the Columbus Motor Inn is a great option. I would stay here again.
