First time in San Francisco and first American hostel experience (have stayed in a lot of European hostels - I think those leaving lower rated reviews may not be used to the 'hostel experience' in general). Conveniently located, near to Union Square and simple to access public transport.
I was able to check in early as arrived earlier in the day, the staff at front desk were helpful, had a bed in a standard shared dorm room with a plug by the bedside, and functioning and hot shower (shared only with the room).
Also enjoyed the complimentary coffee in the kitchen all day! And was able to use laundry facilities (available for guest use after 5pm) so that was useful as I was midway through a month of travels. There's a little courtyard area, which wasn't utilised as much as I thought it should be, for guests to socialise.
The hostel is part of some group hostel events - I went to the 'Beer Olympics' and a Murder Mystery event, wasn't particularly well advertised but if you can figure out how to get involved or tag along with people who've sussed that out already, it's a great way to meet people and have a laugh!More
