The Nob Hill Hotel is a really interesting place. An older building with only a few rooms it has a very boutique feel. You know you're in for something different when you spot the antique "cage" elevator door. The hotel is central and the rooms are clean, if not overly large.

The price was very reasonable for a central San Francisco hotel. The California Street cable car line is only two blocks away.

No air conditioning but hey, it's San Francisco...how hot can it get. Each room does have an oscillating table fan stashed in the closet, and it did the job fine.

Any hotel that has free wine in the lobby every evening is OK by me. (Try going into the Hyatt and asking for your free glass of wine.)

The decor is terrific. Swag curtains, double crown mouldings. The interior is well done but it will have you expecting to see horse drawn carriages on the street. I liked it...a welcome change from the plain-vanilla that every other hotel uses.

Very satisfied...I'll be back.

We loved this place. It had all the nice touches I would expect of a traditional San Fran Hotel. Complete with the old style elevator and gaudy finishings in the lobby. The staff were super helpful and friendly. We stayed for 4 days and would certainly go back in a second. Great location if you don't mind the hills. Rooms were nice - slightly older but super comfy! I also liked the windows that open right onto the street below!

My friends & I came to San Francisco back on Dec.2010 for a ladies weekend. 1 of my friends had booked this hotel online. Once we got there, what was on the website wasn't what we experienced! The front desk lady ended up giving us a different room type than we booked plus she couldn't find the paperwork with our reservations. She then informed us that the room we requested was not available until night 2 of our stay. There was NO bellhop to help us w/our luggage when we arrived-we had to grab the cart & hauled our bags to our rooms ourselves. In addition since this hotel is quite old, the elevator is small & has both a door & sliding cage door; only 2 people and the luggage cart were what could fit at a time- so multiple trips were made. Then since the hallways were narrow, it was difficult to guide the cart. Luckily the room had 2 entrances. Instead of a room w/2 double beds, they gave us 2 adjoining rooms-the kind used for a traveling family plus they were quite small! 1 room had --1 double bed, a couch, desk, mini fridge, TV inside armoire , sink outside the bathroom, toilet & shower in bathroom, 1 window that had the view of others' rooms & small garden; When my friend went to plug her charger, she said the cord made a spark. The other room had -- 1 double bed, a sink right next to it, TV set placed up high in a corner, shower & toilet. When we had gotten in the room, I noticed the toilet was running. We called downstairs, the maid came up, & she didn't do much. I ended up fixing the problem myself. Their only "Happy Hour" they had was pretty much wine & cheese. My friend was mad to say the least & we made plans on staying elsewhere. We wanted to deal with the manager but he wasn't available until 3 in the afternoon. Once we did meet with him, he seemed very blase about the whole thing. You would think that they would bend over backwards to make your stay enjoyable but the manager wasn't doing ANYTHING to help us or his hotel for that matter. His customer service skills were definitely unsatisfactory. So in closing, this hotel offers some lovely pictures on their website and that's pretty much where it ends! D-E-F-I-N-I-T-E-L-Y false advertising! >:(

First of all the $47 charge for one night's parking was ridiculous, as was the long wait for the car to be returned in the morning. Old, but not sufficiently restored. Carpets were ugly and stained, and the elevator was not reliable. Room was small, but it was fairly quiet at night.

When we arrived, having booked three hotels through Hotels.com/Expedia, only two rooms had been reserved for us - and they were sold out. Hotels.com/Expedia had no interest in helping us what so ever, and they did not offer compensation for the troubles caused. When asked they reluctantly offered around $30 compensation, which did not even covered the charges of calling them about the issue. The receptionist was fortunatly very helpful and called many hotels around the city - that being said the check-in took way too long.

The two rooms we got for the first night (the third couple in the group found alternative accomodation) was not good. The first room was incredible small and the bed was so tiny - being from Europe we are used to small hotels and small beds, but this was worse than anything we had ever experienced! There was no room for luggage either.

The second room was much bigger - and in size it was pretty decent, but walls, floor and ceiling was not very clean. The bed was reasonable, a queen size I suppose. The furnitures was outdated and should have been replaced years ago, at the very least professionally cleaned. The room was heated (in july!!!!) by hot pipes running through the walls.

The second night they managed to find a third room for the third couple, and relocate the first couple from the small room. The two new rooms was way better and one of them was actually decent!

We used the rather pricy valet service ($36 for 24 hours) for parking the car - it took 40 minutes to get the car back and the hotel staff did not care much about it!

The hotels is very loud and you can hear ANYTHING that goes on in the hotel - so bring earplugs!

The breakfast is a joke - we had ours at other places though it was included in our price at the hotel.
We will never stay at this hotel again, though it would be a decent deal if priced less than $100 a night.
