After reading all the gushing reviews about this place I wasn't sure it would live up to the hype. But it did.
When we arrived we found out we'd been upgraded to a two-bedroom suit. We weren't sure this constituted an actual upgrade, since we had no need for a second bedroom, and would have preferred a higher floor. As it turned out, though, being at street level was fine. It wasn't at all noisy. It's a short walk from the touristy area, but far enough away from all the noise.
Our suite was...well, it bordered on absurd. If it were a loft on the market in my city I'd probably have bought it. Full kitchen (and I mean full -- Wolf gas grill, microwave, convection oven, dishwasher, basin sink, wine cooler, dishes, utensils, dining table, the works -- and living room, including sound that could be piped in to the other rooms. Two full bedrooms and bathrooms. Since we had the space we just stuck our bags in the second bedroom and let the staff know they didn't need to turn down those beds. If you have a family, there is probably no better place for you than this. You could cook dinners and prepare lunches here for a week (they'll even buy groceries in advance of your arrival), or if you're tired of cooking they'll deliver from any of the restaurants in Ghirardelli Square....which is right out the back door.
The staff was incredible...from the host at the free wine tasting each afternoon to the concierge who booked our Alcatraz tickets to the gents who drove us around the city in the house car (a Lexus SUV) to the people making sure you had everything you needed at breakfast, they never missed a beat.
Finally, and maybe best of all: the second-floor terrace overlooking the bay. It was a little cold in San Francisco the weekend we visited, all the more reason to pull some chairs up to the fire pit, open up a bottle of wine and a good book and look out over the city. We spent a lot of time up there, and even got a free hot dog from an employee who was cooking for a private event further down the terrace. Hopefully that doesn't get him in trouble...I just don't think the staff there knows how to say "no" to a guest.
I could not recommend this place more highly.
