Owner description: At the northwestern corner of San Francisco, there is a series of stunning views at every turn in this wild and windy trail. Hillsides of cypress and wildflowers, views of shipwrecks and access to the ruins of Sutro baths, a San Francisco specials memory.

If it is a clear day do the loop hike from the Visitors Center parking lot to SeaCliff and the Legion on Honor Museum and back to the parking lot. There are quite a few stairs but it is a beautiful little urban trail with great views of the bridge most of the way.

Lands End is, as the name implies, the northwestern end of San Francisco where it meets the Pacific Ocean. From here on a clear day you can see Japan! I'm kidding, of course, but you CAN see the Farallon Islands 30 miles or so out in the sea. From some places you can see inside the Golden Gate to the bridge itself, and across the straits to the Marin Headlands. There are trails to walk and several places where you could stop and have a picnic. There are no services, so take care of your business before you start the hike. The trails are well-maintained and are really more like dirt sidewalks than "trails," per se. Anybody who is ambulatory can explore this area safely. This is one of a surprising number of places within San Francisco where you can get away from crowds and noise and feel relief from the claustrophobia of the City.

Great place to take sunset photos, sit on the beach and enjoy the view. It gets a bit windy here and be sure to bring a jacket if you are coming during winter time. The winds really pick up here and it gets cold. But great during summer months

It's interesting to see the Pacific Ocean, but there isn't really much else there. A souvenir shop and a small cafe.

I can appreciate the city and it's urban beauty, but there is nothing like seeing the great views of the Golden Gate Bridge from this trail. We took a picnic lunch and the fog started rolling in just as we were finishing. We made the call to head further into San Fran for about an hour. We saw the fog lifting and went right back to Land's End. Great decision!
You can start the trail at the ruins from Sutro Bath, but we parked in the El Camino Del Mar parking lot (all parking is free) and started our hike there. The trail starts out as concrete and turns to packed dirt (sometimes mud), but it was an easy hike for us even though we were strictly tourists (not avid hikers). It can get a little windy at certain spots so you may want to have a jacket with you (you will definitely want a jacket if the weather is cooler). If you stay on the trails you shouldn't encounter any problems. Should you decide to venture down the stairs at Land's End Point to see Mile Rock Beach up close then your hiking skills may be tested on the way back up. The stairs are steep and long, but it was most definitely worth the trip down and back up!!! The views from Land's End Point and Mile Rock Beach are stunning on a clear day. You just can't beat watching the waves crash on the rock formations with the Golden Gate Bridge in the background. You can hike a pretty good distance on the trail, but we didn't go past Land's End Point. If you want some detailed info about the trail/area you can go to www.parksconservancy.org and check out the Land's End link. If I am fortunate enough to return to San Fran for a visit I will most definitely visit Land's End Trail again!!
